how to spell NN?

Now that my DS, Macaiah, is approaching 1 month old, I am trying to think of how to spell the potential nn (prn Ma-kai). I just saw that an actor on ER (not a show I watch) has this name but spelled Mekhi (ln Phifer)-- I really don't like that spelling though. Any ideas?

What looks the best? Please help!!

TIA

I really love that name. I like Mekhi Phifer's way of spelling it, however Makai could work as well. I think I might even prefer Makai, as it looks more like it is pronounced.

I'd use simply "Mac" but if you want 2 syllables, use "Macai" -- no k, e or h (please!)

Have you heard Mehki pronounced??

The sites I can find Mekhi Phifer on says it is pronounced Me-KEY and to me Ma-Kai has not the same sound.

It like Me sounds to me like the word me and

Mekhi Phifer was on a late night TV talk show last night, which was what got me to start pondering. His name is pronounced very similarly to how I say DS's NN-- The "ME" sounds more like "MEH" which is very close to "MAH"-- at least in my imperfect dialet (he he). And then they both have the same "KYE" sound at the end. It was the closest I had ever heard, thats all. Hopefully I am not confusing you too much!!

Macai, of course. It's right there in the name.

I'm not sure how to pronounce Macaiah. It looks like Isaiah, so I would first assume that it's muh-kay-uh, but since you referenced Mekhi Phiher, I'm guessing you say it muk-eye-uh. I guess that if I didn't like the way Mekhi looked, then I would spell the nickname the way that you spelled it in your post: Mekai. Mecai doesn't look like Mekhi to me. It doesn't look like anything to me, really, so I don't think it matters that the nickname has a K where the full name has a C. I like Mekai as a nickname; I also really like Chi (Kai).

Well I am Swede and I had to call my poor British friend ask her how she would pronounce the name and the pronunciation guile.

I got closer to what she said then what you said, but hey she speaks the Queens english, rather upper class.

Wow!! Thanks for the impressive researching!!

Off topic... I actually had a very good friend from Borlange, but its been years since we've seen each other. And my best friend just moved to the fjords of Norway-- so thats pretty amazing, since everyone else I know is planted right here amidst the cornfields of middle America!! Hopefully one of these years-- once my babes get old enough and we save enough money, I would love to visit Scandinavia.
