Lane is a family name on my mom's side. How can I incorporate this into our next baby's name? I like Elaine and Delaney but can you think of any more?

For a boy or girl?

My dhs mn is Layne, so our son is Weston Layne. There was also a little boy named Lane where I used to work.

We are still ttc this baby so I don't know if we'll need a boy or girl name. I really like the nn Lanie for a girl. I hadn't thought of the 'Layne' spelling.

I know a girl whose name is just Laine - not abbreviated for anything. I like this a lot by itself. I've also seen it spelled like Layne or just Lane like your family name. Just an idea...I also like your suggestions of Elaine and Delaney, although I'm hearing Delaney more often lately. Here are some other ideas as well. You could use the NN "Lane" for anyone of these. Let me know what you think! HTH!

Melaney/Melanie
Lanelle
Nalani (suppsoedly means the "Heavens" in Hawaiian).
Lainey/Laney
Layna
Alana
Alaina

Lanie is cute for a girl, and I have always like Delaney. For a boy I think it works better in the mn spot, but I guess that is because of my dh and ds.

What about using Lane for a middle name - then you could use it for a boy or a girl. I also like Layne (for a boy), or Laynie (for a girl) in terms of first names.

you could use Lane as a middle name for a girl or a boy. I also really like Lanie/Lainie, Alaina/Alana, Lanee/Lanay, Jilane/Jilaina, Julaina, Melaina, Lilane

I would just use Lane for either girl or boy. That's a great name that doesn't need to be altered.

I really like the name Laney too but I am so afraid of the boys calling her "Layme" one day. Sad but true and I try to think of everything because boys and girls can be cruel.

Just a thought but it is a great name aside from my paranoia.

Good luck!

What a funny coincidence - Lane is also our family name (from many generations past). My mom and I both have it as our middle names and I've always wanted to pass it on (although my DH and I are still TTC). I had never thought about the name Lanie/Laney!
