...Amaris. I saw a girl with this name today, and it intrigues me. How would you pronounce it? It's Hebrew, means "pledged to God", I think.

I'm not sure how it should be pronounced, but I've heard it pronounced "AM-er-iss" (similar to amorous but more of the short i sound in the last syllable).

I have a baby name book that gives pronunciations. It's not listed in there, but they do have the name Amara, pro. ah-MAH-rah.

At first glance, I would think it would be pronounced like Damaris, which is DAM-ar-is. So AM-ar-is.
