Hubby wants opinion on his favorite name

One of my hubby's favorite movies is Silverado where his favorite character's name is Payden. He wanted to name our first son that and I refused and then he wanted to name our second son that and I refused. Well, here we are again thinking of names and of course if it's a boy he still wants to use the name Payden. Our two boys names are Dawson & Ethan and I want another name with two syllables that ends with an 'n'. Of course Payden works but my favorite so far is Owen. Please give me your honest opinion about each name. My husband thinks I'm the only one in the world who wouldn't like Payden. Is he right?

Thank you for your time!

hmmmm

Its always hard to give opinions because well ultimately you need to go with what your heart is telling you and who cares what anyone else thinks but since you asked. I like Owen much much better. I don't think Payden is a horrible name but its too made-up for me.......especially with brothers like Dawson and Ethan (which are great names) i think Owen goes with them much better. just my 2cents...good luck!

What Jannet said. You shouldn't let what other people think and say get in the way of what names YOU like but if it were my son I'd pick Owen, hands down. :o)

Well, it's not the worst name I've heard. It's actually not that bad. It's very similar to Peyton, which is a unisex name nowadays, so I think you'd run into a lot of people who would hear his name & think you said "Peyton". So there'd be a lot of correcting of others on his name.

To be honest, I like Owen better, though.

i don't care for payden, but think that payten would sound great with your other names and is close to payden. payden sounds like a store to me (like payless shoes)

I don't like it. Plus, I think people will say/spell it as Payton.

Wait a minute, my fellow posters!! I think the girls are siding against the boys here! LOL--- I'm going against the flow, once again!

KIM---Had you posted ---Owen or Payden? I would've answered in a heartbeat- OWEN!

But since you gave the background info, I vote Payden ALL THE WAY! It's hubby's turn to get his way! Besides the name definitely fits with your criteria. And what better way to honor ds #3 but to give him the name that Dad is rooting for. My kids are 8 1/2 and 6 1/2 and the thing they like best about their names is that they have a "story" behind them. Payden would be named for Dad's fave movie character. By the time you get to third child, esp. third child of same sex, I think it's great to find a neat way to set him apart in a special way.

My only caution is that with the popularity of Peyton, he may have to correct folks some. But Owen is unusual enough that he would probably have to spell or reiterate it too, so what's the big deal? Plus, when I say Payden aloud, I think if I'd never heard the name Peyton, I'd actually like Payden better.

Payden, it is, in my book, and be thankful to Dad that names matter enough for him to care! Good luck, and by the way, either name sounds great with sibs and Owen made it all the way to the "Take to the hospital list" with my ds#1! Sincerely, Ginger

I agree, it seems like it's Dad's turn. And Payden is kind of cool, IMO.

Good luck!!

I don't care for Payden because it is so close to Payton/Peyton and I know a lot of girls with that name...and I am not a fan of "cross-over" names...once the girls have it - the girls keep it...lol...but pretty soon there won't be boy names left!!!

I love Owen...very cute!
