Husband starting to help...WDYT?

My husband recently agreed to come up with his top five names while I did the same. My goal was to find at least one name that was on both of our lists. That didn't happen. Here are the lists. Please tell me what you think....I personally think mine are more creative and his way too popular, but I suppose that's where compromise comes in.

Husband's

1.Emily (HE LOVES THIS NAME. He keeps saying it over and over).
2.Elizabeth
(He did want Emily Elizabeth together but I insisted this was too "Clifford")
3. Kaylee
4. Michelle
5. Sadie

Mine

1. Lorelei
2. Genevieve
3. Julia/Juliana
4. Miranda
5. Nora
6. Lily

Okay, so technically I came up with six and a variant but whose counting.

He did warm up to the name LORELEI MICHELLE, which at least combines one of the names he likes and one of mine. Any thoughts on this list?

Sadie - It's ok. Better than Kaylee.

Lorelei - so-so
Genevieve - no
Julia/Juliana - not crazy about these
Miranda - no
Nora - My fav of all names
Lily - very pretty but VERY popular

My top picks:

What about Elizabeth nn Lily? One from each of your lists - although both are very popular, both are beautiful. I also like Elizabeth nn Eliza or Liza for something a little different. Here are my thoughts on the rest:

Emily - I like it, but it's just too popular in my opinion. What about Emilia?
Elizabeth - I like this with nn Eliza, Liza, or Lily
Kaylee - this is nmsaa. I think it's very trendy and sounds way too juvenile for an adult.
Michelle - this is OK. It's never been one of my favorites, but I can see why others think it's pretty.
Sadie - Love this as a nn for Sarah.
Lorelei - This has just never been one of my favorites. It's just a little too frilly for me.
Genevieve - This is nice, but again, it's just not one of my favorites. I have been hearing it a lot more recently though.
Julia/Juliana - Like both of these a lot. Not sure which one I like better.
Miranda - This is nms.
Nora - Love this as a nn for Eleanor. I don't mind it on it's own though.
Lily - Love this as a nn for Elizabeth.

Camilla and Camille seem like they fit in with your style. I love both of those names and they are a little more unusual than almost all of your choices.

From your list, these are my top three:

Elizabeth nn Lily or Eliza
Eleanor nn Nora
Sarah nn Sadie

My least favorite is Kaylee.

Good Luck!

I'd have to agree that your husband's list is very "trendy". I absolutely love the name Emily, but it's so popular right now that it's almost unusable. It's been #1 or #2 for the last few years in the US, I think. Emilia or Emery might be good alternatives. Or as a middle name...Miranda Emily, Nora Emily, or Genevieve Emily could work.

I really love Nora and Lily out of all the names on your lists, the only two that I absolutely wouldn't use is Kaylee and Sadie

I love all of your husbands choices for middle names, (except Sadie and Kaylee). Just for my input I think you should take one of yours and one of his as fn and mn. My favorites together from your list are:

Miranda Elizabeth (several nn can be made from this also, whatever feels right to you)

Lily Michelle (I like this because it is simple and sweet)

Emily Nora (Not a fan of Nora, but I think this flows well)

Elizabeth Miranda (this is my favorite from the list, I have always liked if for some reason, and there are a lot of nn options)

I have an Emily Elizabeth who is 9 years old. So far she has never been teased about her name. We do say yes it is like the girl on Clifford and it ends there. The strange thing with her name is that when she was little and we were in mommy and me classes she was alway one of 2 or 3 Emily's. She is now in third grade and has never had another Emily in her class. I wonder where they all went. LOL I don't even think there is another Emily in her grade.

Emily - too popular for my taste, but it is a nice name
Elizabeth - classic name, pretty
Kaylee - not my style
Michelle - not my style, but i can see why others like it
Sadie - not my style

Lorelei - so so
Genevieve - i like it
Julia/Juliana - i like it
Miranda - i like it
Nora - i like it
Lily - i like it

My favorites are Miranda and Lily. I also like Emily as maybe a middle name. Good luck! :)

I don't love Lorelei Michelle. And if your primary concern (other than liking the name, of course) is popularity, then I think Lorelei is a mistake. It's popping up all over the place now. I agree with you that Kaylee is way to popular, and also a victim of that awful Y phenomenon. And I think that Michelle is a little 80s for my taste, though it appears to be making a bit of a comeback. The rest of his list, though, isn't so much "popular" as it is "classic." Emily, Elizabeth, and Sadie are all names that have been around for a while, and I don't think of any of them as trendy.

I like all the names on your list except Lorelei. Miranda, I'm a bit more neutral on, but I love Genevieve, Nora, Lily, and Julia (I prefer Juliet or Juliette over Juliana, though).

Here are a few of the combos I can come up with that both sound good and combine one of each of your top choices:

Sadie Genevieve
Lily Elizabeth (this is my cousin's name, though she's a Lillie rather than a Lily)
Sadie Elinor (variation of Nora...you may hate it)
Emily Genevieve
Julia Elizabeth
Nora Emily
Emily Juliana
Sadie Juliana
Julia Genevieve (OK, these are both yours, but I love this name)
Nora Genevieve (ditto)
Elizabeth Juliana
Genevieve Eliza (variation of Elizabeth...again, you may hate it)

The great thing about the possibility of you giving in to Elizabeth as the first name is that you can indulge your more creative (not kre8tiv) side by picking the nickname. The possibilities are practically endless, and include Lily, which is one of your picks. Other nicknames are as follows: Ellie, Ella, Liza, Eliza, Bette, Bitta, Betty, Libba (my favorite), Beth, Bebe, Liz, Lizzie, Libby, etc.

Anyway, I hope this helps. Why won't men just give in and let US name the babies??? It's not fair! :-)

I see a very obvious solution: Name her Elizabeth (or Emily Elizabeth...it's lovely and not very many people outside the preschool set will make the Clifford connection...certainly not a reason to abandon such a lovely name) and call her Lily. Lily is an old nn for Elizabeth (I've seen it on census' dated back to 1820) and relates to Emily nicely too. That way, you both "get a name you love". I much prefer this to Lorelei Michelle (which seems flat and ordinary by comparison). Other combos of your two lists that I like:

Miranda Elizabeth (lovely)
Emily Juliana
Lily Michelle
Michelle Genevieve
Julia Elizabeth

Again, I'd let him have Emily...if he LOVES it (and it's a very pretty name!)... pretty enough to supercede its popularity (this in contrast to Kaylee, which does not supercede its popularity). Another possibility: Susannah with nn Sadie:

Emily Susannah
Susannah Michelle
