I am having a boy. I want to know why so many people dislike it? I like J or D names that end in n. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Also why is there so much negative opinion about this name?
Do you know a lot of Jaden's? I don't know anyone.

Thanks a lot

I think it's a nice name. You should use it if you love it. Who cares what anyone else thinks... I don't know any Jadens.

There is negativity towards Jaden because all of the -aden names are gaining popularity(Aiden, Hayden, Jaden, Caden). Although, I've seen Aiden flying around as a name a lot more than Jaden. But anyway, it's seen as a trendy name that sounds made up. But it's not made up, and obviously a lot of people think it's a nice name, since they are using it for their children. I think that gives it some credibility. ;) There is also worry that it is "going to the girls" and is no longer a good name for boys. So that is something to consider, if it bugs you.

That said, I really like the sound of the name Jaden. Will it date him as being a 2005 baby? Yeah, maybe. But so could a lot of names, and hey, he'll have a lot of company. There will probably be a couple other kids in his class with -aden names, maybe even another Jayden. Do you mind him sharing a name with a girls? (think of all the Chris's, Pat's, Jordans, Kelly's, Aaron/Erin's etc. Do you seem scarred for life from sharing a name with girls?)

I like the sound of Jaden, I think it's a nice name.

Ditto what the other ladies had to say about Jaden. I am a Jaden advocate so much so that we are naming our adopted son: Jaydon-Matthew. It's a loong story one that I have shared on this board one too many times, but I like the name and I love it's meaning. Granted I don't like the fact that it has become a girls name. I have always liked nonandrogenous (sp?) names, but when I first saw this name in a baby book about 7 years ago it was listed as a boys name.

It bothered me that so many people dislike the name, but there are so many other names on this board that I don't like and others vote for: so...

You do get my vote for Jaden.

I really really like Jaden. I don't think of it as a girl's name--even if some girls get the name. Jada to me is the feminine...I think Jaden sounds masculine.

I think it sounds strong and pleasant.

GL and congrats. :)

I think I don't like the overall instant popularity of it. I know more Jadens than I know Aidan, Hayden, Caden combined. There are 2 Jadens on my street (both female) and 4 in preschool with my son (3 girls, 1 boy). There is some variety in spelling, Jayden, Jaiden, Jadon etc, but it is the same name.

I also am not a fan of unisex names. However if you love it then by all means use it, it is your child and that is what counts!

What if you spelled it Jaydon or Jayden? I'm sure the Jay would without a doubt make everyone aware its a boys name and also give him a nick name if hes in class with another. I like it but I have one in my family- a boy and I'm biased.

The problem most people have with Jaden is that the -aden sound is super popular these days and each name just blends into the others. Nothing to stand out or be distinctive. For some people, that's a good thing. Kids in particular like to fit in! That's too much 'fitting in' for me now. There's just too many of them already!

I went to the SSA site and looked up how many kids were named an -aden, --ayden -adon, -aiden or other soundalike spelling last year and divided it by sex:

Boys:
Aiden - 7055
Jaiden - 1252
Kaiden - 996
Caiden - 645
Braiden - 301
Haiden - 172
Jaden - 5081
Caden - 4112
Kaden - 4081
Braden - 2597
Aden - 1017
Haden - 189
Kayden - 962
Cayden - 1229
Ayden - 2151
Brayden - 4033
Hayden - 4959
Jayden - 6833
Jadon - 597
Jaydon - 492
Braydon - 616

Girls:
Jaiden - 694
Cadence - 1526
Jaden - 1264
Kadence - 789
Kayden - 351
Hayden - 483
Kaydence - 825
Jayden - 1368

That's a LOT of kids that sound similar. And they'll all be going to school at the same time. I feel sorry for the teachers, having to keep Jaydon, Jaiden & Jaden all straight. I like Jadon but there are so very many soundalikes out there already, I could never use it. Blending in is good but disappearing into the mass isn't, to me.

I think a lot of why people dislike it is it became so trendy, and there are too many names with that whole ending - aden - Aiden, Caden, Kaden, Hayden, I've even seen Zayden.

it's like they all sound almost alike

then, on top of that, a lot of people starting used them all for girls. I met a little girl Jaden just the other day, about 18 months old

other Js/Ds ending in n sound

Justin, Jason, Jordan, Dustin, Dylan, Darrin

me - the J name I like the best is Jared - that has a lot of the same letters as Jaden, but it's definite male and not nearly as popular or trendy

D, my favorite is Derek. again, not overly popular or trendy.

good luck
