I have a Name but undecided on spelling?
| Thu, 05-03-2007 - 9:53am |
OK I just found out about a month ago I'm having another girl
this is Number 3 and our last I really like the name Miranda but i want to spell it Myranda what do you all think??????
Do you think it goes well with my other two kids
Mariah and Griffin?
any comments are welcomed!

I think the "Y" is unnessary. Stick to the traditional spelling. Miranda is a beautiful name and it doesn't need the "Y" in there to make it different. Congrats on another girl!

I like Miranda (prefer this spelling), though it sounds a bit too similar to Mariah for me (both M names with prominent Rs ending in A sounds ... very close, like overly-matchy twin names, KWIM?).
Some similar names that aren't quite as close to Mariah:
Just sticking to similar sounds, here, but I'm sure if you want more suggestions the ladies here would be happy to help. ;)

There are some similarities between Mariah and Miranda, but if they don't bother you, I think Mariah, Griffin, and Miranda are cute together as a sibset.
I don't ever see the reason for needlessly misspelling a name, but I especially dislike Myranda. Unless you intend to change the pronounciation to My-Randa (closer to Myra and Mylanta than Miranda), I think it's best to stick with the traditional spelling.
why do you feel you need that alternative spelling - Mariah and Griffin are both spelled the traditional ways
putting the Y in there is just too trendy of an idea - there's nothing wrong with Miranda
I think Mariah and Miranda start off awfully similar. I'm not sure I'd use them on sisters. and what about Griffin having a different first initial than those two. I do know many families where that's the case though, I just wouldn't do that
good luck
I think Miranda is a very pretty name.
Thanks for your input it's kinda funny you said Melinda
considering that is my real name lol but everyone calls me mindy.
I know Mariah and Miranda sound alot alike but i figured we'd call Miranda
Randi for short if it gets too confusing lol or MJ
cause her middle name is going to be Jean I'm a month away from my due date and my hormones are playing with my head lol
agian thanks
Mindy
I had lots of differant names but Miranda is the one we all agreed on
we did a family poll plus were most likely call her Randi for Short.
thanks agian

Oh, my! ;) Melinda/Mindy, Miranda/Randi and Mariah would be even MORE confusing for me! LOL
Trust me, I know where you're coming from. There are plenty of names I know I'll never use now because they're too similar to one of my girls' names or nns. Isla is one of my favorites but there's no way I'd use it since Abigail's nn is Aila. ;) It's fine, though ... I have plenty of other "loves." LOL
You should post a new thread listing your children's names and some others you like (to get an idea of your style) and see what kind of suggestions you get. You never know! You might just be stuck in a "sound rut" -- only liking names that are very similar to the ones you've already used (happens all the time) -- and someone might suggest a name you'd love but wouldn't have thought of otherwise. ;)
Ps. I meant to add Renata to that list earlier, as well.

I like it spelled Miranda -- just so she won't have to spell and re-spell it for everyone as she grows up.
Very pretty name. :)
AJ, enjoying life with C.
