I must name our baby with an "M" name

We aren't going to find out the sex of the baby. We either like two strong names or two unique names. What do you think?

MaKaleigh (Girl)
McKauley (Boy)

OR

Matthew
Madeline

Should we do something different or something standard or do you have suggestions on any neat "M" names?

Hi there,

For some reason, our girls' name list is about half 'm' names, lol. This is of course jmo, but none of those names is 'unique' (I think everyone else has posted why) and Madeleine is the strongest of them. Matthew and Madeline are my favourites, because they will "grow up" well, while MaKaleigh and McKauley are very trendy "of the moment" names, which will probably seem passe in 10 years (like, say, Kristi and Brittney)

Strong, less common m-names (that I think are neat, but hey...this is just me :P)

Boys:
Marcus, Marco, Marc, Mark, Marko, Markus (my baby brother's Marcus- he's 25 now, but he was usually unique at school)
Madoc, Maddox
Martin
Malachi (mal-a-kai, hebrew)
Malachy (mal-a-key, irish)
Malcolm
Manus
Marshall
Matthias (Greek/German, sometimes English), Matteo(Italian/Spanish), Mats (Scandinavian)
Maxwell
Maximus
Mason
Merrick
Meyer
Morgan, Morcant
Mordecai
Munro(e)
Murdoch
Murphy
Myron

Girls:
Margaret, Margaretha, Marguerite, Margreta (etc)
Maisie, Maisy
Margot, Margo, Margaux
Maren, Maryn
Marta, Martha
Marcia, Marcy, Marsha
Maya, Maia, Mia
Meredith
Maura
Moira
Myra
Mira
Mabel
Marian, Marion
Muriel, Mariel
Miriam, Myriam, Maryam
Maeve
Matilda
Maud, Maude
Maxine
I know one little girl (2 1/2) named Maple- her mum complains that most people think it's Mabel, though.

(the m-names on our girls' list are Maeve, Maude, Muriel and Moira, and our daughter's mn is Margaret :P)

How about Meryl if its a girl and Madax if its a boy. My younger sister's name is Meryl. When my mom named her, she thought she was naming her after Merryl Overon, but she still named her that after she found out that it was Meryl, like Meryl Steep.

For some reason I like McKauley, at first I thought it was odd but it has grown on me. For a girl I like Marissa or Mallory the others are to trendy.

I don't like MaKaleigh at all for a girl, however I like McKauley very much. Matthew is nice, but SO common, and I like Madeline. How about Marissa or Maverick?

Matthew & Madeline, please. Yes, they're very common. However, they are real names. That's always a plus. I personally love them both anyway. Makaleigh is awful, sorry. Mc names for girls really need to be ended; especially ones that are clearly made up. Macauly spelled correctly would be perfectly acceptable. I still perfer Matthew, but if you want something different Macauly w/a C would be great. I do love the nn Mac. Here are some more M suggestions that are unique, but no kr8tave-

Girls:

Maura/Mara

Malia

May

Mabel

Maisie-Or you could do May or Mabel nn Maisie. Too cute, imo.

Maren

Melina

Melody

Melanie

Melinda maybe nn Millie? Aw!

Miriam

Mina

Molly or Moira nn Molly?

Boys:

Martin maybe nn Marty

Maclin maybe nn Max

Maximus maybe nn Max

Maxfield maybe nn Max

Maximilian maybe nn Max

Matthias

Matteo

Malcolm

Mackenzie-Okay, I know it's popular for girls. But I think this needs to be brought back to the boys!

Miles

Milo

Hope you like some!

I couldn't agree more with what Easteregg2005 had to say:

Very honest first impressions:

Matthew or Madeline - well-educated, thoughtful parents

MaKaleigh or McKauley - young parents driven by trends who aren't thinking about how these names will come across when their child is a grown-up with a possible serious career.

Oy if I have to choose I must beg you not to use that first pair. Matthew and Madeline would work swimmingly.

Other M names I like:

Boys - Mason, Michael, Matthias, Mark
Girls - Mary, Margaret, Mallory, Mikaela
