I NEED HELP!

I'm preggo and my due date is day after tomorrow. I've been planning on naming her Aubrey Nicole for a few months now. Aubrey b/c I just really like the name and Nicole b/c it sounds good (lol) and it's also my middle name. The problem: Aubrey means "ruler of the elves". I definitly DO NOT like that! lol! I decided TODAY that I wanted a name that means something. I like the idea of it meaning angel, a blessing, a gift from God, or something along those lines. Nothing too common or too crazy. I don't like Angela or Angelica or any of those... I was thinking about Arella or Arielle, but I don't know if I really like those. I was also thinking of Shae as a middle name. Or maybe coming up with a combo of a few names??? I don't know for sure...

I was thinking that we may keep Aubrey and just give her a middle name with a good meaning unless I find something that I just fall in love with or think is absolutely perfect. *sigh* I know it's a little late to be looking for names... But if anyone has any ideas or input I would REALLY appreciate it! TIA!

Maybe you're just getting a little nervous now that she's almost here! We don't usually inform people of the meaning of our names. I think Aubrey sounds great, and if you have had your heart set on it,go for it. Think of the ruler of the elves as whimsical,a sweet little sprite! And then for her middle name, give her my name---Janet. It means God's gracious gift.--- Aubrey Janet :} Look no further! (grin!) Best of luck to you and your daughter.

Do you like Audrey? It means noble or strength.

Some other possibilities

Eliana - My God has answered
Elizabeth - dedicated to God (other forms of Elizabeth: Eliza, Elisa, Elise, Bethan)
Jana, Joan, Jane - God's gracious gift
Mattea - Gift of God
Jessica - God beholds

IMO you should find a name you love first then worry about the meaning. Good luck.

Some other names that have a similar "feel" as Aubrey, with perhaps a more desireable meaning:

Meredith - great lord
Delaney - decendant of the challenger
Calla - beauty
Tess/Tessa - summer
Amelia - industrious
Miranda - miraculous
Jillian - youthful
Sabrina - Princess
Bridget - resolute strength

I really like Aubrey. I had no idea that is what is meant.

You could use Audrey instead, if the meaning bothers you. Audrey means Noble Strength.

How about Mariah (I actually like the spelling Mariya)? It means the perfect one; God has taught.

Actually Aubrey is from the Old Germanic "Aubric" who was a mythical King of the Elves. But, the name itself means "supernatural being", "elf" and "power".

I think all of those are cool!! :-) Good luck with naming her and congratulations! Im sure once she is born, her "right" name (whether it be Aubrey or something else) will come to you.

What do you think of the name Anastasia? Pron in greek is ana-sta-see-ya. Hope that makes sense. In Russian it is An-as-tay-sha. I prefer the greek sound, but russian is more common.

It means "Star" or "Star godess".

All the best with your little one.

I wouldn't worry about the meaning - I had to look my own up again the other day - I can never remember it

I love the name Aubrey - "ruler of the elves" isn't that bad, honest

good luck

I have a niece named Aubrey (age 5) who is a wonderful young girl. I think it is a lovely name.

I wouldn't have known that her name meant "ruler of the elves". In fact, when she was born I thought her mother said her name meant something like "blonde one" which was funny because she has dark hair. Are you sure you have the right meaning?

I just looked it up on "baby center" and it says it means blond king.

Good luck!
