Our last name ends in "ton." Is it too rhymey to have a first name that ends in "an"? Specifically the name Ian SomeThing"ton". (using something because it adds 2 more syllables to "ton" like our last name really is).

Ian is a name we both agree on (although don't know how much hubby likes it)....he thinks it sounds fine, I'm worried about the flow.

Thanks.

I just replied to your other post about Ian before I saw this!
I think with your last name having 3 syllables you will be fine. Example, Ian Washington sounds fine to me, but Ian Melton might be pushing it.
My problem is our last name starts and ends in an "N", similar to Nelson. Any name that ends in "N" runs together with it. (And I am very drawn to names ending in "N"!!)

I say go for it!

Good luck!

I would say no not if it's a first name that you really love. However, if you're torn between two names then I would use that "on" factor as the tie breaker against the name. But, I do know a little boy who has an "on/en/an" ending for all 3 names.

I tried it out with a couple of possible TON names and it sounded FINE to me!

I think it's fine, especially if the emphasis is on one of the first two syllables in your last name - as it was in the example. It wouldn't trip me up at all. Ian is a great name!
