Okay, so I am getting ready to name my first baby, but I feel this compulsion to figure out all the names I want to use, so that I can make sure the names coordinate, and make sure that I use enough family names, and so on. I want a large family (four or more children) and I picked out three girl names and three boy names that I really like, but I want some alternate names in case I have more than three children of the same gender. I hope this makes sense, haha.

I am also open to suggestions. I like two-syllable names and if possible, I want all the names of the children to begin with different letters. I generally like classy names that have been around for a while. I would really appreciate any help.

I like Bridget, Ella, or Tessa with the other names.

Thanks, I love Britta. Hazel is really interesting to me also, but I don't know if I could name a child that. It seems trendy, after Julia Roberts named her daughter Hazel.

Thanks for voting, everyone. Tessa is winning so far...I really like Tessa, but it seems like a nickname for Teresa to me. I am not sure if I could use it as a full name. I think I might be leaning toward Ella, but it seems really trendy right now. It's my great-grandmother's name, though. I also like Eleanor. I also really like Vera, but I am afraid it sounds too old fashioned. Also, my mom thinks it sounds like a cocktail waitress. What do you think about those two names (Ella and Vera)? Is Ella too trendy, and does Vera sound trashy? I would really appreciate any advice...thanks.

I really like Vera and don't find it trashy at all...I think of Vera Wang and her gorgeous bridal gowns, personally. Probably wouldn't do Ella and Vera together...I remember someone once making a joke about aloe vera and can't get it out of my head.

I REALLY like Vera but I admit I make the Vera Wang association also. Not necessarily a bad thing, though :)

I need some names that match with Cora, Marie, Audra, Lyle, Peter, and Nolan.

  • Bridget -- I love Bridget, but it doesn't go with Cora, Marie & Audra.
  • Ella -- this goes best, I think.
  • Kendall (girl) -- this name, and Riley, go well with Lyle, Peter and Nolan, but not with your girls names.
  • Riley (girl) -- see above.
  • Tessa -- this sounds good
