we like mari - actually we are considering marit (or merit). that is at the top of our list right now. i have seen it used on tv and in movies, but have never actually met a "merit/marit" and am having trouble deciding what direction that name might nudge her in... other names on our list are georgia, avie, and elizabeth. what do you think? thanks for your suggestions!

I like Georgia Joann & Elisabeth Joann is great!!!

I thought Mari would be cute, but you can also use Meredith Joann w/ nn Merri, Mari, Merit or even Margalit with same sort of nn.

Avie Joann is nms. It looks like there should be more in the name... perhaps: Averil Joann, Ava Joann, Aveline Avaline Joann or even Avery Joann, but I like Ava better w/ nn Avie.

But I like Mari, its a pretty name.

Kendall Joann Hoppee

Megan Joann Hoppee nn Meg

Kristine Joann Hoppee

Margaret Joann Hoppee nn Greta

Gretchen Joann Hoppee

Rebecca Joann Hoppee

thanks so much for your suggestions! we didn't think we were going to get to have children, so we used our favorite girl name on our beautiful dog/child - gretchen. we already have a rebecca and a megan in the family (nieces), but i do like margaret w/nn maret ??

i had my mind fixed on georgia from the time we found out it was a girl until about a week ago when i started writing elizabeth and lizze all over every thing in the house that can be written on. lizze hoppe - i love the way it looks, but i'm not sure about the sound ??? i am intrigued by meredith, possibly w/nn merit. thanks for the ideas!

I'm 51 years old. I had an old school friend whose name was Joanne Valerie... Although we found her first name attractive, she preferred to go by Valerie. She felt that Joanne was too common at that time. Valerie is as old fashion a name as Joanne, but she felt it called more attention to her as an individual as it was not used as often. Nevertheless, whatever you choose as a middle name for your new baby, it's always nice for individuals to have the option to use either when both names are attractive at hearing them spoke outloud combined with the last name.

Joann Hoppe sounds good as is. Try using combinations of names with Joann --- Hoppe to see how these sound to you. The sounds of the names should sing to your ear as well as to your daughter's ear and others who will eventually say her name throughout her life. She should feel comfortable with it as this will be part of her identity. Personally, I never liked my own names and have to carry these throughout my life. Because my own ugly name, I have made extra efforts to choose the right names for my children which would be appropriate for their own time. They loved their own names, Samantha, Sebastian and Alexander, and in turn I have been designated to name my own grandchildren as they were born. I review the latest name trends so as keep them their names consistent with their own peers. My last grandson was just born on March 3, 2006, I named him Phillip.

Best wishes on your new baby.

thank you for your suggestion - i too like joann as the first name, but we already have two joann's (my mom and my husband's) and it is so confusing when we are all together (as we so often are). i really want to honor her grandmothers by using their names, but i also want her to have some "individuality".

thanks for your suggestions - elizabeth is in the top three on our list. we just have to be really careful because of the last name - heidi joann is nice, but she will hardly ever be called by her first and middle names together. she will however be called by her first and last names together billions of times before she gets married and changes the last name, and heidi hoppe (hi-dee hop-pee)just seems cruel...lol
