Initials to avoid?

Hi All,

Need your opinion on something. I love the name Owen and would like to use my brother's name as the middle name, which is Jamie...Problem is I'm balking at the O.J. thing. Is this nuts or would you react negatively to hearing of a baby with those initials?

As a related post note, I have had the worst time with this subject in general because our last name starts with a P which means all "P", "I" and "U" names are out. Plus, my husband's brother's name, which was also a contender for the middle name, is Daniel, which makes the initials O.D. as in "overdose". I think I'm thinking too hard...What do you think?

The initials O.J. or O.D. would not bother me. I like the sound of Owen Daniel a lot. Owen James would be nice too, but I don't care much for Owen Jamie.

With initials, I'm only bothered by the obviously derogatory or obscene ones - F.A.T., D.U.M., A.$.S., C.U.S., ..... stuff like that.

Good luck.

I agree that OD and OJ wouldn't bother me. Maybe they aren't IDEAL, but they aren't bad either. And unless they are really bad or spell an actual word, usually people don't notice. My initials spell MAN and I HATE it. It doesn't bother me quite as much now, but when I was younger I really despised it. Still, I never get anything monogammed and I initial everything MN or AN, but NEVER MAN.

I wouldn't worry about those initials. It doesn't spell out a bad word or anything so I think it's fine.

My son's name is Owen Daniel so I had to chime in on this one although I mostly lurk here. He is almost 3. Not once have I even thought of his initials being OD. LOL I think of the three initials together (first, middle, last) or the first and last but not the first and middle. My Owen's Daniel is after my dh. I think it sounds wonderful together. I don't think Owen Jamie has quite the flow, but Owen James sounds nice. I don't think OJ or OD are a problem. Good Luck!

I don't think either is a problem, especially since I'm assuming you wouldn't call him by his initials anyway. Owen Daniel is especially nice, IMO, and as someone else mentioned, OD is not even an initial combo I would notice or association I would make. Very nice. ;)
