Just for interest...

What is your name/DH/DD/DS name, etc?

Have you ever had any difficulty with it, for e.g. people saying or spelling it wrong?

Just thought it'd be fun to see other people's names, and it also might help someone considering that name!

I'll go first...

My name is Elaine, and, generally, I haven't had many problems. A few people have thought my name's Laine, and others have thought its Melaine, and one teacher was adamant my name was Eliane (Elly-Anne) and kept telling me I was spelling it wrong! :) As far as spelling goes - mostly spelt correctly, a few Elane and Elain by nothing drastic.

My family (as I am not married, so no DH, DS, DD):

mom: Heather - rarely spelt or said wrong.

sister: Catherine: seldom said wrong, people tried nn to Cathy which she hated, some spelling problems - Kathrine, Cathryn, etc, but mostly spelt correctly.

my dad: His name is a family name - Genard (JEN-hard). He's forever having to spell and pronounce it!! But - it is different and memorable, and we haven't met another so far! :)

Interesting to see your own name thoughts...

Hey, my name is Casey-Jean Meaghan McCoy (long name I know) I go by just Casey, or CJ, or Case, but mostly CJ. I usually drop my middle name b/c then myt name is so long. My maiden name was O'Connor a lot of my teachers refused to call me CJ when i was in school...one wouldn't even call me casey...she would say to me your name is not CJ or Casey it is Casey Jean and thats what you should be called....she was not a nice teacher...the only spelling thing was some people spelled it with a k, but thats all no biggies.

My mother is Candace Marie O'Connor. she doesn't really have a nickname, everyone calls her by her full name. Someone tried to calll her candy once and she almost had a fit. The only spelling mistakes shes had was spelling it Candice, but thats it. my mothers maiden name was Brady which is where we got our sons nn from.

My father is Terrance James O'Connor- everyone calls him Terry, but all my friends used to call him TJ just for fun, he doesn't use it...a ;lot of people spelled his name wrong or thought it was a different name, but it didn't bother him.

My older brother is Ryan Thomas O'Connor. Everyone calls him Rye and no one spells his name wrong ever.

My younger brother is Kyle James O'Connor - no spelling problems, sometimes we call him Ky, but usually goes just by kyle

My older Sister us Kristen Delenn O'Connor - no spelling problems with first name...middle name no one even knows what kind of name it is, my mom i think made it up or something. WE actually call my sister Kaydee...

My sons are 1/12 year old twins

Brennan Hunter McCoy - no one spells his name wrong but a few people have mispronounced it, not to bad though...we call him Brenn...

Braidyn Gunnar McCoy - We have some spelling and pronounce problems once and a while, but its not as bad as i expected, we get a lot of Brayden spellings and Braden spellings, but pnce we tell them they get it. His nickname is braidy and we get Brady spelling sometimes but thats all.. all in al even though his name is spelling wrong sometimes i love his name and i love the spelling so its worth it.

baby coming no name yet lol

Wow that was really long...i was going to but my nephews and neices but that would take to much room...

sorry i blabbed on anf on

What is your name/DH/DD/DS name, etc?

Have you ever had any difficulty with it, for e.g. people saying or spelling it wrong?

DH is Karl. He really hasn't had problems with his name, other than people occasionally spelling it with a C instead of a K.

My name is Gretchen. I haven't had problems with my name at all. It seems to be an "always common yet never popular" type of name, and no one has ever misspelled it that I can remember.

DD#1 (age 6) is Kathryn. We have had surprisingly few problems with her name. Very rarely is it misspelled or anything else (mistaken for Catherine, Kathleen, etc) No one calls her Katie, which so far I think is a good thing because I've never liked NN Katie. Her grandfather calls her Kat, but otherwise she is Kathryn to all.

DD#2 (age 1) is Natalie. No one has spelled her name wrong or called her the wrong name yet. I plan to smack the first person who calls her Natalia though ;-P

Also...

My dad is Glenn. I don't think he has ever had problems with his name aside from people spelling it Glen now and then.

My mom is Lorelei. She has always gone by Lori. People seem to think Lorelei is "so weird" and it was just easier for her to become Lori instead. She pronounces Lorelei "LOR-a-LYE" and a lot of people seem to pronounce it more like "Lora LEE", which drives her crazy. But even with Lori, she has had problems...mail used to come to our house with all varieties of spellings....Lauri, Laurie, Lory, Lorrie, Loraly, Lorelee, etc. Even Laura occasionally.

My older sister is Anne-Marie. When she was a kid she went by Anne or Annie. A lot of her teachers had to be corrected when they spelled it "Ann" without the e on the end of her name. Only in her twenties (she is now in her thirties) did she begin to use Anne-Marie. I don't think she's had any big probs but I know she is not picky and doesn't mind when people write her name out Annemarie, which would drive me NUTS if my name was Anne-Marie (I am much pickier, lol)

My younger brother is Jonah. I am honestly not sure if he has had any problems with his name or not, but he does get a ton of compliments on his name! When he was about 12 there were 3 little boys in our area named Jonah and at least 1 of the moms admitted she named her son that because she thought it was so cute on my brother!!!

I'm plain old Amy. No spelling changes...although I'm asked to spell it all the time.

My DH is Michael. No problems there...just a TON in the world!

My oldest is Patrisha, nickname Trisha. People try to 'fix' the -SHA ending. I had enough Spanish background to see Patricia as Puh-tree-sea-uh. Thus the spelling difference.

My middle is Isabella. No problems, but have been asked to spell it.

My baby is Lilybet. LOTS of fun with that name! Most people think it's Lilybeth or Lily Bette!

My nieces are Graycyn and Madacyn (Grayson and Madison) Now THEY get the fun times! LOL!

Amy,

I think that your DD's name, Lilybet, is so beautiful!

I know you said that people assume she is Lilybeth or Lily Bette. But I was just wondering if you have encountered negative reactions or any real 'problems' with her name? I know at 17 months you may not have been able to gauge every reaction...but I am very curious about this name. I love Elizabeth, and it's my MN, and this is one of the only variations on Elizabeth that I have seen and actually really liked!

My name is Ginger Clare. Every once in a while, I'm called Jennifer and most people assume my formal name is Virginia. And someone once spelled it Jenger. Clare, they always put an -i in. Clare is actually the older sp.

Dh- Christopher Metz- usually has to spell mn

Ds- Grantson Metz- always have to spell both, fn is often mispro. Grantston.

Dd- Wellsley Michae- always have to spell both, sometime called Wesley, unbelievably most people get the mn right- "Mc-Kay" as opposed to Mi-shay or Mi-chay. I think they pronounce it right b/c of all the Michaela out there!

My mom- Linda Joye- people always leave off the -e, she hates the -e anyway

Dh mom- Carole Jo- Ditto the "e"

My dad- Michael Lamar

Dh dad- Howard Metz

My sis- Betsy Lynn- A lot of people are convinced that my sis and I are Virginia & Elizabeth- We are not.

Dh sis- Amy Marie- no probs-

Niece is Leah Marie, no probs.

My g-ma is Anolia with no mn- pro. Anno-leah. People totally mess up everything about it!

Our dentist's assistant is a woman in her 30's and her name is Michae pronounced 'Micah'. Drives me crazy! I like your DS's "Mc-kay" pronunciation much better. I could also see "Mi-shay"...but Micah?!?
