Introduction and opinion on DH's name!

Hi, I have been lurking and was going to post after we find out what we're having, since I am only 10 weeks.

I love it! I think it's similar in sound to Aiden (similar structure, also Irish). Using a less-popular Irish name as a brother to Aiden is perfect -- it makes Aiden sound more like an Irish classic and less like a trendy American name. I think it's easy to pronounce and familiar to people (because of the actor) but different enough that it looks like you put a lot of thought into both names rather than just choosing cute, trendy names. And I just love this name -- I think it's so handsome!
If you just don't like Dermot and can't warm up to it, maybe you could compromise and find a similar Irish name that you both like.
Well, it's nms, but I guess Aiden and Dermot don't sound too bad together...?

I agree with Annie ... I think a less-popular Irish name like Dermot will make Aiden seem LESS common or trendy and more classic. Also, Irish names in general are so hot right now, you'll just seem ahead of the curve. For example, if I hear Aiden and Connor or Aiden and Owen, I think "Oh, parents who wanted Irishy names but didn't want to put too much thought into them." There's nothing wrong with those sibling names -- I actually like ALL of them, that's why I don't feel bad using them as examples -- but they're all so popular it seems more like the choices were based solely on popularity and not the names themselves, KWIM?
FWIW, I've always like Dermot but it doesn't work with our m-heavy Mc- ln. I have the same problem with Desmond, a similar name that might appeal to you and your dh if you're not sold on Dermot.
If you'd like more suggestions for other less-common but still familiar Irishy names, just ask! We'd be happy to help. And welcome, btw. ;)
