Irish baby names - opinions?

My DH and I know that we'd like an Irish first name for our second child (the middle name will be a family name). We're both Irish, and we just generally think Irish names are lovely sounding. Our last name ends with a long e sound so that eliminates any names that may rhyme with e.

Girls:
Saoirse Louise (pronounced searsha) - Although there are many of the same letters in both names, I think it flows nicely.

Evelyn Louise (pronounced eve-lin) - Will everyone assume it is pronounced ev-uh-lin?

Boys:
Declan Clark
Nolan Clark
Conlan James

Any other suggestions? Thanks!!

I'm long past my baby years, but couldn't resist weighing in on this one!

Boy names:

Ciaran (pronounced KEE-ran)
Patrick
Brian

Girl names:

Ciara (pronounced KEE-ah-ra)
Siobhan (pronounced SHA-von)
Moira (or Maura -- pronounced the same)
Caitlin
Kathleen
Eileen
Naoise (pronounced NEE-sha)

Hope this helps!

These are great! I love the name Kieran. I wonder if I could use it as a girl's name?

I think people will have trouble pronouncing both of your girl names - most will assume it's ev-uh-lin and most (including me) would have no idea how to pronounce Saoirse.

I'm Irish too and I love the Irish names.

Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.

Thanks again for the suggestions! I love the name Catriona, but if it is pronounced ka-tree-na, the association with Hurricane Katrina is too strong. On some baby name websites, it is shown as being pronounced ka-tree-ah-na. However, babynamesofireland, which I take to be the bible for pronunciations, shows it as ka-tree-na.

You wouldn't have to pronounce it Katrina--I went to school with a Catriona who pronounced it Catrona with a long o.

I've always loved Siobhan. My husband vetoed it, so I guess we won't be using it! As for Saoirse, now that we have a famous young actress with the same name, people might actually pronounce it right!
