So after MONTHS of debating on a girls name, DH and I made the sad mistake of settling on a name this morning via Yahoo Instant Messenger.

Cerys is a lovely name (and Welsh too so Iam happy!) and the hard 'K' sound is the proper pronunciation. However, there is a Greek name Ceres that Im pretty sure is pronounced SE-RES so you could probably get away with your DH's pronunciation but be prepared for people telling you that you have the wrong pronunciation. Maybe you could change the spelling - Serys perhaps?

Isabelle is a lovely name.

Good luck xxx

Oddly enough, if he's that in love with his "own" pronunciation and it doesn't bother you, I'd say go for it. ;) There are plenty of similar names that enjoy the same "altered" pronunciations on a daily basis, after all. Ciara popped into my head immediately, since technically it is a feminine form of Ciaran from the word ciar and should be pronounced with the K sound (like Keira), but is just as often pronounced/used as a form of Sierra, KWIM? I don't think it really bothers anyone, though. Also, since many people aren't already familiar with Cerys (other than us on here of course LOL), and you will in essence be introducing it to them, I think they'll pretty much go with any pronunciation you offer, and won't think it's odd at all.

HTH :)
