Is it a girl's name or a boy's name?

Okay, my husband and I are having the typical "we can't agree on a name" disagreement. We're having a girl. He likes the name Rebecca, and I like the name Aidan. I found the name Aidan in two different baby name books, and both of them list it as a girl's name (of course it is spelled differently, but I think that the spelling Aidan is more girly). The problem is that most of the sites online list it as a boy's name. We're now talking about naming her Aidan Rebecca, and most people I have talked to like the sound of the two together. What does anyone else think?

We have considered other names, but we liked Aidan for the meaning as well as the way it sounded. "Little firey one" or "flame" depending on where you get the meaning.

Aiden/Aidan is a boys name. Every Aiden I know is a boy. There are many beautiful girls names out there, especially Rebecca.

I think it sounds like a boy w/ a girl's mn! Really, Aiden (the sound regardless of spelling) is such a popular boys' name right now. I don't know why it was listed as a girls' name unless it used to be at one time.

All the Aidans I know are boys. Rebecca is beautiful! How about Rebecca Aidan?

I know a boy and a girl named Aidan. I prefer it as a girls name.

I actually know two little girls named Aidan but they are spelt different. I believe its spelt Ayden, I remember awhile back a woman on one of the name boards used Eiden(aiden)or was thinking of using it. I really like it for either sex. Its a good strong name. Good Luck!

It sounds very pretty together. I think the name can easily pass off as a girl's name the way you are spelling it. I have a 8 month old brother whose name is Ayden, and I know of two other people with the same name--spelled Aiden, but they are both boys. The spelling definitely works for a girl! Good luck!

After much deliberation and consideration (especially of what people said here), we decided to stick with Aidan Rebecca. We both think that it will suit a daughter of ours very well.

I like the name Aidan. To make it look more of a girls name try adding a y in it. Maybe something like Adyan or Aydan. I think it makes it look more unique too.
