Is it a girl's name or a boy's name?

Okay, my husband and I are having the typical "we can't agree on a name" disagreement. We're having a girl. He likes the name Rebecca, and I like the name Aidan. I found the name Aidan in two different baby name books, and both of them list it as a girl's name (of course it is spelled differently, but I think that the spelling Aidan is more girly). The problem is that most of the sites online list it as a boy's name. We're now talking about naming her Aidan Rebecca, and most people I have talked to like the sound of the two together. What does anyone else think?

Nope... sorry, we like Aidan Rebecca. Thanks for the suggestions, but she will definitely be named Aidan Rebecca.

It's definitely hard to agree on a name when both parents' styles are so different. To me, Rebecca is a very feminine, classic name, while Aidan is more modern and trendy (and none-too-feminine, but you've indicated you already know that). I think Rebecca is just fine, especially if you like the common Bekah or Becky nns that are inevitable (I've never known a Rebecca to actually go by her full name). On the other hand, while I tend to like certain modern or less-common names, I never could get into the "boys-names-for-girls" trend, so Aidan is nmsaa. I actually think it's a really nice name for a boy, although it is quite popular. If you don't mind her having 4 boys in her class with that name (or having to correct people who see it in writing and think she's a boy), then go for it. Apparently, the trend has become quite popular, so you probably won't be alone. When it comes down to it, you get to name her whatever you want. ;) Good luck in choosing!

I just noticed you mentioned you also like Aidan for a girl because of the meaning. If it helps, Edana is actually the feminine form of Aidan, and means the same thing. McKayla and Fiammetta (Italian) also mean fiery, and Elektra means "the fiery sun." I'm sure others could come up with even more. HTH!

I really do appreciate all of your suggestions. They gave us some serious conversations, but we have definitely decided on Aidan Rebecca Barugh. That will be our first daughter's name.

I love both names; unfortunately, Rebecca for a girl and Aidan for a boy. I can't see Aidan for a girl, personally, BUT if you do decide to use Aidan for your daughter's name, please spell it the common way. Putting a y in there doesn't make it look more feminine; it just looks like it's spelled wrong. JMHO

edited because I see that you have made a final decision. If you are going to use Aidan for your daughter, I am glad you are spelling it the way you are.

Congratulations and here's to a happy and healthy baby girl :)

I think it is most definitely a boys name. I don't like it on a girl at all. Sorry.
