I really really really love the name Jack and I have yet to come across another boys name that I love as much or even like for that matter. So my question is, is it really that popular of a name or is it more of a celebrity baby name? And does it really matter anyway, is there much point in settling on a different name that I don't like as much just because it's not as popular??? HELP!

Also any suggestions on middle names that would go with it? Last name is Wilton

Jack is very popular. There is no denying it. However, popular names are popular because lots of people like them. I know that sounds stupid and self-explanatory, but I think we forget that sometimes in our quest to find a unique name. Having a popular name is far from the worst thing in the world. And while I would certainly encourage you to keep looking if it was just a name you sort of liked, if Jack is THE name for you, if it's the name you love more than any other boy's name in the world, then I absolutely think you should use it and not think twice about the popularity. So what if there are other little boys named Jack in his class. It's not the end of the world. (And that's coming from someone who generally loves unique names.)

Jack is a great name. I really love it despite its popularity. I think it goes well with tons of middle names. I'd look for something at least two syllables long. And because Jack has sort of an abrupt, hard sound, I'd look for something a little softer. Something like Jack Christopher or Jack Adrian or Jack Alexander.

I would suggest that you look to your family tree or to your personal interests first when looking for a middle name. Is there a family member or friend you'd like to honor? Think about their middle names and surnames as well as their first names. Is there are literary character or author or artist you'd like to incorporate? How about a name that reflects your religion or heritage? I bet if you go through all those things, you'll come up with a great list of names that sound dashing with Jack, and we'd love to help you pare it down and choose the perfect combination. And, of course, if you can't think of anything, we're good at brainstorming names that just sound good. But I'd definitely look for a name that has a special meaning for you first.

I like Jack. It's a very nice name. I do not know any young children named Jack, so I don't think it's very popular here (NW Arkansas). But I do hear it a lot on the Internet boards.

I wouldn't let popularity stop you if it's a name you really love. Your Jack will be very special to you.

I'm with you ... Jack has been my favorite name (after Will, which we named our first son) for many years. I don't care about the popularity -- if I could use it, I would in a heartbeat. But my dh doesn't like it (he thinks of the negative slang terms that use the word), and while I keep trying for each baby -- it's still (after six more children) been a "no" with him. SIGH.

If I used it, I would like to use Henry as a middle name -- that's a trendy star-baby, name, too, but I just don't care. I like it and Henry is a family name on both dh's and my side. Other middle names I'd like are Hubbard (family name), Hudson (just like it), Andrew (like it) and my other current fave: Jack Otto (family name).

USE IT! It's a great name.

It IS pretty popular, but it's also a classic...one of those names that, if you look back through the last couple of centuries, you'll see it regularly used...so it's just familiar, not trendy (as in having a sudden spike of activity.) If you hear "Jack," you don't have an automatic image. It could be Kiefer Sutherland on "24," it could be Matthew Fox on "Lost," it could be the son from "Hook," the King of Halloween, or Jack Benny on the radio. It's an Everyman name and I love it. (And, oddly enough...I don't know any, despite the numbers...)

As far as combos, it's pretty flexible:

Jack Charles Wilton
Jack Dorian Wilton
Jack Edward Wilton
Jack Forrest Wilton
Jack Stephen Wilton
Jack Maxwell Wilton
Jack Thomas Wilton
Jack Marshall Wilton
