Jumping the gun here: ISO girl names!

Hi,

My name is Adrianne. I'm new to this board, but not the Village.

DH & I are going to TTC beginning next month & I'm already searching for names (we had a difficult time naming our now 7.5-year old DD). Any ideas on what to name a girl to go with Sherina? I'm not against rhyming, although I must admit that it's no longer cute once the kids become teens. With 2 SILs named Katreena & Sabrina, plus a DD named Sherina, I'm trying to stay away from the "-ina" names!

TIA for any help!

Adrianne

Hi, Janice!

My name has a little story behind it.

My parents originally wanted to name me Bianca (which does NOT go with my maiden name!). Somehow they agreed on Adrianne but since Dad filled out the birth certificate (he never knew how to spell) he wrote "Adrian"--the *masculine* spelling! Fast forward 8 years: I'm reading one of my mom's name books (she was expecting baby #5 then) & I saw this spelling in the boy section. I had a little conniption: "Does this (I grabbed my ponytails for effect) look like a boy to you??" I asked my parents. So I asked them why my name was spelled ADRIAN when I was obviously a girl. Mom told me the story; she & Dad agreed to change the spelling to ADRIANNE (Mom wanted ADRIENNE, so it was a good compromise). My middle name is Marie...do you have a middle name yet?

I never had a nickname, which was hard...I had to listen to my parents' tone of voice to tell if I was in trouble! LOL Beginning @ age 6, I had a slight problem with my name being yelled in a little movie called "Rocky" but I used that to my advantage when people started trying to call me 'Andrea'. I simply reminded them to recall Rocky's girlfriend & call me by her name--no one ever forgot after that. Today I love my name & appreciate its uniqueness. I even started watching the show "Monk" because the character's first name is Adrian & I loved hearing my name on TV!

Seeing your list makes me think of a suggestion my best friend had. I told her I was thinking about naming my new DD after my mom (Catherine) but I didn't want to use the exact same name. Caitlyn was her idea, & I like that. Might spell it differently, though I'm not sure how yet.

Adrianne

Ali,

You've got some great choices! What makes me giggle, though is this:

I have a SIL named Sabrina,
My niece by my other SIL, Katreena, is named Breanna,
My niece Brielle is 2.5 months old,
And what a coincidence--Shayna is one of my first choices!

I thought about the name Samantha back when I was PG with Sherina 'cause my DH's grandfather, with whom he was very close, was named Sam. He died a year before Sherina was born. Sabrina's younger daughter has the middle name Tonisha 'cause it sounds similar to Teresa, my MIL.

So as you can see, I know that all these choices would work well with my family name!

I forgot to post in my OP that the reason I'm ISO girl names only is because I *know* DH will want to pass his name down to our son if we have one! But I'd feel sorry for the kid 'cause DH is a Jr.! He'd probably have to suffer with some cutesy little nickname through his early years.

Adrianne
