Katherine, Caroline, and #3?
| Mon, 04-04-2005 - 6:33pm |
OK - if you were naming DD#3, and #1 was Katherine Marie, and #2 is Caroline Elizabeth, what would you name her? Last name starts with a Mc, we're both very traditional namers.
Thanks for any ideas,
Sarah

if you want to stick with the C/K sound, here are my thoughts. I'm guessing you probably have nicknames of Katie and Carrie for them
Christina (Chrissy or Christy)
Corinne or Corina (Corrie) (maybe a little too close to Caroline/Carrie though
Cassandra (Cassie)
Calista (Callie)
Kirstin (Kirstie)
Kimberly (Kim, Kimmie)
Kristin (Krissy, Kristi)
Kelsey (no nn)
Others that match up in style, but not with the C/K idea
Amanda (Mandy), Angela (Angie), Amelia (Amy), Abigail (Abby), Alexandra (Allie or Alex), Allison (Allie), Belinda (no good nn though), Delaney (Laney), Dianna, Elizabeth (lots of nn possibilities, but the whole name is so popular, so many), Hannah (no nn), Johanna (Jo or Hannah), Jacqueline (Jackie), Jessica (Jessi, this is almost traditional now), Leah (no nn), Melinda (Mindy), Megan (Meg), Natalie (Nat), Naomi (no nn), Olivia (Livi), Rebecca (Becky), Susanne or Susannah (Suzy), Victoria (Torri).
good luck
Wow! Thank you all so much, I had no idea I'd get so many terrific responses!
Next - find out if I'm really pregnant... :)
I should mention that the C/K thing wasn't on purpose, I'd had a different name picked out for #2 (Julia Elizabeth), but DH didn't like it at the last minute, and I wanted to name her quickly so that we could tell 2 1/2 year old Katherine what her baby sister's name was - and we both could agree on Caroline. I do have to introduce them as Katherine with a K and Caroline with a C, sometimes, though, so do wish I'd thought of that. We also don't use nicknames, although they might decide differently when older.
Funny thing is - my middle name is Margaret, my mother is Mary Margaret, and DH's mother is Marianne. The Marie was to name her after both grandmothers already, but Margaret would sound nice - hmm!
Thank you all again, some of my favorites have appeared and some great ones I hadn't thought of!

Happiness is a conscious choice, not an automatic response. --
It seems that the third daughter is sometimes tricky.
It took us a long time to name our third daughter too!

Your post brings to mind a family who lives nearby. It's twin brothers who used very similar names for their seven kids. I've noticed over the years that everyone compliments their choices, regardless of their personal name preferences. Their names are:
boy- David James
girls- Mary Catherine, Sarah Kate, Laura Jane, Caroline Wade, Elizabeth Leigh, & Grace Eloise
Very similar taste to yours, huh?
Their kids' names bring to mind a name I don't think anyone has suggested to you-
Laura- It would fit well.
I also thought I'd point out that I've compiled a list of names I refer to as the True Classics from over 20 years of "toying" with names.
My top three- Elizabeth, Catherine, & Sarah- with Caroline & Margaret in line next, and - Rebecca, Rachel, Ann, Laura & Mary rounding out the Top Ten
My very strict criteria are- 1. Historical value 2. Lasting generational selection 3. Easy to spell & recognize 4. Acceptable appeal to almost everyone regardless of their personal naming style 5. Variants in many languages- One other name that has seen "classic" appeal in the last century is Jacqueline. I like the fact that the ending is the same as the other girls yet they're three totally different names.
Here are some suggestions, given your naming style-
I personally would avoid C/K to give all three names more uniqueness, and to avoid matching letters for only two of three siblings.
With Katherine Marie & Caroline Elizabeth, I like-
Rebecca Leigh
Laura Emily
Margaret Elise
Jacqueline Amanda
Others-
Amanda Jane
Rachel Megan
Emily Rebecca
Anna Leigh, Anna Margaret, Anna Rachel
Rachel Margaret
Erica Margaret/ Margaret Erica
I do think you have some leeway on other names that aren't quite as long-standing traditionals but do have classic appeal-
Vanessa Leigh, Allison Virginia, Victoria Jane, Samantha Allison, Leah Margaret, Meredith Rachel, Bridget Nicole, Esther Margaret, Alexandra Leigh
Or even-
Tabatha Ann, Miranda Eve, Cassandra Lane, Miriam Faith, Millicent Rebecca, Susannah Grace, Lillian Ruth, Savannah Margaret, Sylvia Rachel, Evelyn Amanda, Naomi Susan, Josephine Elise, Natasha Clare, Mia Lauren, Stella Margaret, Sasha Ellen, Elaina Rachel
AND I LOVE with Katherine Marie & Caroline Elizabeth-
Judith Amanda
Joanna Margaret
Vivian Amanda
Beatrice Lynn
Penelope Ann
Anastacia Clare
Good luck, Ginger
Katherine Marie, Caroline Elizabeth &
~ Clara Margaret ~
or
~ Charlotte Anne ~
Best of Luck!
