I like the sound of Keegan, but I have a few questions about the name:
1) Do you think it's going to the girls?
2) Do you prefer Keegan or Kegan?
and finally...
3)Does Keegan even sound good with Griffin(my DS)?

Thanks-
Annie

p.s.- for what it's worth, I'm not sure DH would even go for Keegan,as he currently is really loving the names Declan and Malcolm.

1) Do you think it's going to the girls? - There's a possibility. I see it listed as unisex on websites, but it is not on the girls SSA list according to NameVoyager. It is #240 for boys, a comfortable spot IMO. It is kinda similar to some of the popular K names for girls and boys, so that could be an issue (I'm thinking Kylie, Kaylee, Kaden, etc.) for some people.
2) Do you prefer Keegan or Kegan? - Definitely Keegan. More clear for pronunciation.
and finally...
3)Does Keegan even sound good with Griffin(my DS)? - Yes, I think Keegan and Griffin work well together. And actually, Griffin is #244, so similar popularity too.

p.s.- for what it's worth, I'm not sure DH would even go for Keegan,as he currently is really loving the names Declan and Malcolm. - I LOVE Malcolm lately also, I'm not sure why! Declan is great too. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these 3 names! I like your style. You might also like Teagan or Tierney.

Good luck, let us know what DH thinks about Keegan.

I've taught two- Keagen and Kegan. Both were girls. The first is probably in her early 20s right now and the other is about 15.

I really liked the name and the little girls, but my association precludes boys.

Good luck!

I like Keegan, but LOVE Malcolm.

1) Do you think it's going to the girls?
No, I don't think so. Keenan, maybe (that has a more fem. sound to me), but I find Keegan very masculine and have never met a female with this name.

2) Do you prefer Keegan or Kegan?
Definitely Keegan. Kegan looks like it would be pronounced "KEG-in" (like a keg)

3)Does Keegan even sound good with Griffin(my DS)?
They go alright together, but Griffin and Malcolm is just stunning.

I've never met a Keegan of either sex.

I like Keegan, and prefer this spelling simply because I think most will try to pronounce the beginning of the Kegan form to rhyme with Tegan -- like the word "keg" -- but with the current K names trend I MUCH prefer your dh's suggestions of Declan and Malcolm! ;)

I also love that Malcolm and Griffin would have different ending sounds, rather than the similar N endings of the other options (and prominent G sound in Keegan as well). Griffin and Declan actually don't sound that bad (I know it's hard to avoid similar endings with Irish type names), but the trendy K names don't strengthen Keegan's case any, KWIM?

If you're not sold on dh's favorites, however, you might like either Egan (the basic root of Keegan) or Hagan (also a form of Egan) as non-K alternatives. ;)

I do like Malcolm, I just wasn't sure it was saying- Scottish male more then it was saying- civil rights activist. The feedback here was very positive for Malcolm though, so I think maybe it's just me that was wondering about the name association.

I also love the fact that it flows so well with Griffin without being overly matchy. It's a personal pet peeve of mine for sib sets with names that sound like the first child got a name picked for them and the other sibs only got their names because they matched the first child's.

Anyway, thanks for all the feedback. DH will be thrilled that I’m now taking Keegan off the list and moving Malcolm towards the top.

Thanks Again-
Annie

I definitely think "Scottish" with Malcolm, and it's probably funny to say, but Malcolm in the Middle helps a TON towards that end. LOL

Love love love Griffin and Malcolm, for all the reasons you mentioned. Great brothers, IMO. ;)

When I saw just the title of your message, I anticipated a question about a name for a daughter - I definitely think of Keegan as a girl's name (and very 80's, but maybe just because I knew of some female Keegans in the 80's). I wouldn't use Keegan for a boy.
