Kellyn / Kellen - what do you think?

Hello - I am expecting my first child in April!
Neither my husband nor I want to know the sex of the baby, so we are considering some names that could be for either. What do you think about Kellen (boy) and Kellyn (girl)? The meaning in a book I had was "brave heart," which I also like.

I love Kellen for a boy, although I do prefer the Kellin spelling. HOWEVER, I am not a huge fan of unisex names and Kellen does seem very masculine to me, so I just can't see it on a girl. Not only that, but I don't like the contrived spelling- Kellyn just looks made up and trendy.

I like them both, too. I don't think Kellyn is too masculine or trendy. It was on my list, but didn't make the final cut with dh. Congrats and good luck... :)

I like Kellen for a boy, but not for a girl.

A friend of mine has a 1yr old son Kellen and he is the most adorable little boy.
I Like the spelling Kellen. I think it also is a cute name for a girl too :)

Just thought I would post again and mention that if you do go with Kellyn for a girl, I would keep the original spelling of Kellen. Don't butcher it just to change the gender... that is the name, it IS a boys name so if you are going to use a boys name then just be aware of that and keep the spelling.

I like it for both genders, but I prefer the Kellen spelling either way. There's really no reason to throw in a random y to "feminize" a name. I think the y robs the name of some of its substance, taking away the history and meaning and instead just marking it as another trendy of-the-now-not-the-tomorrow choice.

I LOVE the name Kellen/Kellan.

It's a great strong name, either way.

I would spell it traditionally, though. Changing to -y doesn't make it more feminine; it just makes it more difficult for your child (spelling/clarification issues).

Keep us posted,

I like both! I auctually prefer the Kellyn spelling for a girl though. Do you have any other unisex names picked out? I think Keegan, Keagan, Keahgan is cute for a girl or boy as well. Just a suggestion. I do like the original Kellen/Kellyn though!

I like Kellen for a boy, but not for a girl. Also with the Kellyn spelling I see it as Kelly and end up pronouncing it as Kelly-en. If you are set on it for a girl I would keep the Kellen spelling.
