Still trying to pick a name we like for baby #3 and keep hearing new names that I like everyday. The girl's list especially is getting longer and my faves keep changing all the time.

A name I've liked for a while but never considered using is Keziah but now I'm loving it. I've never met anyone called Keziah so just wondering what everyone thinks of it.

Thanks xxx

It's not my style (I tend towards traditional), but I stil think it's a cute name. Sounds spunky and creative.

A friend of a friend (here on ivillage...Jackie, where are you?) has a Keziah and it is SO cute - I think they call her Kezie for short.

I think it is pretty cute, nms for me, but cute on someone elses kid. I know it is Biblical, but it still fits in with all the trendy K names. I know a little 5 yr old Keziah and she is adorable.

Keziah is Hebrew for cassia, which is a variety of cinnamon. I think I prefer Cassia (pronounced KA-sha) as a name. Or even Cinnamon (which is really saying something). Kizzie is the major reason why. I'd much rather a girl saddled with this name concept had the option of Cassie or Cindy. I believe that there's about a 50% chance that she'll hate her given name no matter which of the three it is, so a good nickname is imperative.

In Spanish, the name is rendered Cesiah (which looks much nicer to my eyes). Or try cinnamon in other languages: Canela in Spanish, Cannelle in French. Zimt in German (not that I'd suggest that!)

Other Old Testament girls names with zippy "z"s:

Zipporah
Zilpah
Hephzi-Bah (ouch)
Jezebel (double ouch)
Zillah

If I recall, Keisha is thought to have directly come from Keziah, so there's that option. And that has options branching off of it like Nikeisha or Lakeisha. And there's Kasia, a more normalized spelling of Kassia/Cassia. Just brainstorming.

Sorry, but its just too different for my liking. I prefer names that are unique but still familiar, but thats just my opinion.
