Kicking around names for fun

DH and I are TTC and have been kicking around names for fun...just to see what direction our thoughts are heading in. Today, we got talking about geneology and either:

A) picking names from the family tree (i.e. first born in the US)
~OR~
B) picking names from the countries our ancestors were from

Has anyone done this? Any suggestions?

TIA! :)

I used the family tree for the first names for all three of my kids. They also have family middle names. If I have another I've got a combo in mind (for each) that combines a family first name with a form of a family name that reflects our heritage (Ukrainian, Polish, Hungarian, Scottish) in the middle. The second middle is always a more direct middle name (uncles/aunts, etc). I think it's a nice way to honor the relatives you adore as well as honoring your roots. I think it gives the kids a link to the family that loves them in return. :)

I agree- it's good for the child & the family.

There is one name that my mother loves & it was/is my first choice of name for our future baby.

I may still select a name that doesn't reflect my mom's (grandmother of child) heritage- but it would be nice.

I named our dog furbaby after an ancestral reference & I like that a lot!

Dh is Mexican so I try to find a mn that is latin sounding. I figure my children will have a Mexican last name regardless so the fn doesn't necessarily need to be. I do however like haveing a mn to reflect that aspect of thier heritage
