Am I the only one that pronounces all of these differently?

Kira/Keira - keer-ah

Kyra - ky-rah - ky rhymes with eye

Kiara - key-ahr-ah

Kiera - key-air-ah

If Kyle is pronounced ky-l and not keel

and Kyla is pronounced ky-lah and not keel-ah

and Kyler is pronounced ky-ler (rhymes with Tyler)

My name is Kira (I'm 34) and about 50% of the people who pronounce my name for the first time say "Kye-rah". Not sure why! I expect that will change as the name grows in popularity, which it certainly has been.

I do agree with the pronunciations in your original posts! And I like the way you broke down the "kye" issue.

I named my daughter Kira after asking around to see how people were pronouncing things. I had originally wanted to go with Kyra, but found that people do say K-eye-rah sometimes. The Greeks say Kyra as "k-eer-ah."

I actually went around at work on lunch and quizzed people. Kiera was said K-eer-ah mostly, although some folks just can't figure out what to say. I think it helped that some of these folks have had German and remember the rule about the two vowels : ) Keira is a spelling I would not recommend. I noticed that even someone famous like Keira Knightly has it spelled as Kiera in the news reports.

The Kira spelling gets the most consistent results. People say "K-eer-ah" 98% of the time. Of course , I am beginning to see more Ciara's which is Gaelic and pronounced K-eer-ah as well.
