Kirby?

My cousin recently had her first child a girl and I have been told she named her Kirby. I am still holding on to the possibility that my Grandmother is loosing her hearing or was confused when she told my mother what the name was. I have never heard Kirby used anywhere and couldn't find it online. Honestly the name reminds me of that puffy pink video game character from back in the day. (Possibly Mario Bros? idk) WDYT?

Before this the most unique names in the family were mine (Austin for a girl), and my cousins Denton (40s), Karsten (20s), Marliese (20s) Briley Mckenna (8), Devann (8), Charley (girl) and Dawson (1).

Ha...you're funny. Um yea, not loving Kirby. But I do love Austen for a girl or boy...sweet name!

I know of a set of twins - now teenagers or early 20's - named Kirby and Kelsey (girls). I strongly dislike both names, for girls or boys, but that just my opinion.

I also have a daughter named Austen. Hopefully your granmother heard it wrong. I have a cousin who has a son named Brody and to this day my GM calles him Brady. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on her part. but yeah, Kirby reminds me of the Vacuum.

Maybe she's a fan of the Minnesota Twins (Kirby Puckett).

So it is a name. Thanks for the info I couldn't find anything on the name. I was thinking it might have been made up? Not really sure if it's a family name. My family is huge (11-32-19 on my mom's side) and dispersed so we aren't close.

Kirby is not a name that I love, but I did know a GORGEOUS little boy named Kirby, it suited him perfectly, not so sure how it would sit on a girl! Definitely a different choice!

I really like Kirby for a boy, not so much on a girl.

I know at least eight guys named Kirby - ranging in age probably from mid-20s to early 70s

I know ONE girl named Kirby, she's probably early 20s also - everyone thought her mom had lost a few marbles when she named her that, because the name Kirby had been reasonably known for males in our area

it's hard for me to see it on a girl because I knew many of those guys before that one girl was born

My Kirby story...

When I was pregnant for my dd, we watched an Eddie Murphy movie where at one point he pretended to lose his dog in order to gain the attention of a pretty girl. He was walking through a park with a leash, yelling "Kirby! Kirby, where are you?"

We started calling my bump Kirby and used it as a nn for my dd for many years.
