Kylerton for a boy?
| Mon, 10-10-2005 - 4:02pm |
My husband and I are trying to find a 3-syllable boy's first name that has a "y" in it. My husband's name is Timothy, so that is definitely in the running, but recently I ran across Kylerton and really liked it. But it seems like when I run it by people, they don't take to it on first impression. The baby's due in about 6 weeks and I'm dying to have the name settled on! Please help!

Sorry- I don't like Kylerton either, but in the end he's your baby :D
ideas-
Anthony or Antony
Jeremy
Zachary
Gregory
Donnelly
Cassidy (unisex, possibly girlier now)
Ellery
Emery
Llewellyn (welsh 'like a lion'-Loo WELL in)
Alexey
Sylvester
Ulysses
That's all I can come up with!

Kylerton looks like a trendy town name, which is probably why you're getting funny looks when you mention it to people. I say trendy because Kyler is very similar to Tyler which was (and is) rather a trendy, of the moment sort of name. There's not a lot of substance to Tyler as a first name and the similar Kyler doesn't seem too substantial either.
I went to oxygen.com and searched for three syllable boys names and then scanned the thousand or so that came up for ones that had a 'Y' in them. Maybe one of these will appeal:
Albany (if you're into place names)
Anthony
Antony
Avery (but this one's used for quite a few girls these days)
Barnaby
Emery
Fyodor (Russian Theodore)
Geoffrey
Gregory
Hilary (if Hillary Clinton's ruined Hillary for the girls, maybe the boys can take back Hilary!)
Illya
Jeffrey
Jeremy
Llewellyn
Nickleby
Sylvester (I think Sly's a cool nickname!)
Zachary
And here are some from my own collection of boys names (but not all these are three syllables):
Aloysius
Bleys (say 'blaze')
Cyrus
Lysander
Rafferty
Ulysses (my absolute favorite boys name with a 'Y' in it)
Wesley/Westley
Also a thought, if nothing appeals yet, maybe use dad's name as a middle?
Oh my, I don't like it much either. It sounds made up and kind of silly to be honest.
I think if you really want 3 syllables and a Y it would be better to go with something like Gregory, Jeremy or Zachary. Better yet, why not just 3 syllables and starting with a T like dad: Thaddeus, Theodore, Tobias?
Good luck finding the right name!
Kyler would be fine on its own, but adding a "ton" just makes it sound like a stop on the train line!

I have a nephew named Kyler Jacob, and I like the name alot. It is different and solid. Nice choice!

I much prefer Kyler- it is easier to say and sounds nicer. The only 3-syl name with a "y" in it that I saw posted and liked was Zachary, although I do prefer Zacharias. I like the nn Zack. Jeremy is also nice.
I liked the idea of going with a "T" name (like the dad). There are quite a few T names out there that are nice. I like the nn's Thad and Theo a lot, and also like Tobias, Tarak, Talon/Talen, Thomas, and Tiergan.
I think Tarak Timothy sounds really nice. So does Kyler Timothy and Tobias Timothy.
