What do you think of the name Laken? Is it used more for boys or for girls? I don't usually go for names that are pretty uncommon, such as Laken, but for some reason, this name has been sticking out to me lately. Please let me know your opinions. Thanks!

Laken reminds me of a cross between Kaden and Brooke. It has a very modern sound and rythym, with the clean, crisp water feeling that Brooke has (my name, which I quite like). Sort of an acceptable hippy-ish sound for the sweater twin set type.

I know one Laken, a student at my junior high (female - I think this is definitely a girl name), but for some incomprehensible reason her parents chose to spell her name "Lakeyn"; maybe they couldn't decide between the "e" and the "y"? The "e" feels much less invented to me, by the way.

I know a 4 month old named Laken Matthew. Since I've seen it for a male it's tough for me to see it as a female name.

When we've discussed Laken before on this board (a few months ago), the concensus was that it is a unisex name, but more likely to be used by girls in the future if it increases in popularity. Similar boys names would be Lake and Lachlan or Lochlan which is Scottish or Irish, meaning 'of the lakes'.
