Layla or Sienna?
| Mon, 04-03-2006 - 3:12am |
I am due in 5 weeks and we are still deciding on our second daughter's name. We already have Mieli Olivia (3 years). We both like either Layla or Sienna. Which is better? And, what middle name? Help!
Thanks, Natasha (Perth, Australia)

I love Layla! It's definitely a guilty pleasure of mine -- doesn't go with my normal style at all, but I love it anyway. It's so pretty. Sienna is just okay to me. And I too think of the minivan immediately.
Have you considered the less popular Leila spelling. I think it's gorgeous and would go so nicely with Mieli. (Also I think it feels less trendy than Layla because it avoids the spelling similarities of Kayla/Makayla/Kaylee/etc.)
I really like Layla/Leila paired with a two-syllable middle name with a strong second syllable. ie...
Layla Simone
Layla Denise
Layla Giselle
Layla Janelle
Layla Raquel
Layla Therese
Layla Camille
Layla Danielle
Layla Patrice
I love Layla! I have to second Annie's suggestion of spelling it Leila, though. That's my favorite spelling -- in fact, Leila is #2 on my own list. Leila Genevieve is my favorite combination, and I think it goes nicely with Mieli Olivia. Sienna seems too trendy to me; Layla/Leila has more substance.
Good luck deciding,
Erin
I love Annie's suggestion of using the spelling Leila with big sister Mieli, and I much prefer it (any spelling) over Sienna -- I also think of the minivan. ;)

I haven't read all the posts (and since I'm in a little bit of a hurry this morning, I can't right now) but I really like Layla. I would spell it Leila, though, especially with your other daughter's name (which is gorgeous, by the way). Also, with it spelled this way, it doesn't immediately make me start singing, "Layla, got me on my knees, Layla, beggin' darling' please, Layla..." in my head. And, given the crazy Y trend happening on this side of the world (but maybe not in Australia?), I tend to at least try to avoid putting a Y in any name for fear people will think I've fallen victim to it.
I like Leila Charlotte, Leila Genevieve, Leila Isobel (Isabel, Isabelle), Leila Rose, Leila Rosalie, Leila Caroline, Leila Camille, and Leila Cathleen.
My favorites are Leila Charlotte, Leila Genevieve, Leila Cathleen, and Leila Isobel.
I like Layla better. You could go with Mae depending on the last name.
