Hi, we just found out we're having a boy. DD name is Keely, after Keely Smith who is a jazz singer. Before she was born we joked that if she was a boy, we'd name him Tennessee. Now that it's a boy, my husband is stuck on Tennessee. (Joe Leiberman's granddaughter's name is Tennessee! Who knew?) I would think his nickname would be Ten...? DH likes the Tennessee Titans, I like Tennessee Williams. Middle name has to be Arthur, after grandfather. Does anyone know anyone named Tennesee?? Not that it matters, I doubt anyone knows anyone named Keely.
Tell me what you think:
Tennessee Arthur
Spencer Arthur
Miles Arthur
Thanks!

Hmmm... my first thought was Tennessee is pretty "out there" -- but then again, geographic place names have become all the rage.

It's funny you mention Joe Lieberman's granddaughter, because Tennessee does seem like a more feminine name to me (and looks feminine as well). Maybe it's the "ee" ending, or the double "s" in the middle, or the 3-syllable flow. I guess my other issue with the name would be that the nickname possibilities are not so great, and I really like nicknames. A girl could go by Tenny, but for a boy, Ten just doesn't cut it for me. With that said, I must admit that I am pretty traditional when it comes to boys' names, so I'm sure others would love it and appreciate the uniqueness (and the significance to you and your husband). It just wouldn't be my choice, but take it with a grain of salt.

I do, however, really like both Spencer and Miles. I don't care much for the flow of Spencer Arthur, though, with the "er" endings on both. So I would definitely go with Miles Arthur. I think that is a very fine name for a little boy or a grown man!

Hope this helps!

Tennesse might be a little to hard for little kids to pronounce and spell. Since you like Jazz, Miles is a great name. I also new a girl named Keely and I love that name too.

Tennessee Ernie Ford...wasn't that an author or a playwright? (male)

You could call him "T" or "Tee" for short.
Or make his middle name start with a "J" and call him "TJ"

Tenn
Nessie (oop, that's for a girl)
Ness
NED

(just brainstorming!)

I love it! I think Tennessee is adorable and there are lots of nickname possibilities, Ten, T, what does you last name start with? If it was a D, you could use his initials TAD, or TAG or ???? I think it is a neat name and would always be a conversation starter!

Wow, thanks to all of you.
I tried Miles on my husband last night and he wasn't into it. I like Spencer, but the Spencer Arthur thing sounds too, um, er-y I guess.
Our original thought was Arthur Chapin, with a nickname of Ace. My husband's middle (and family) name is Chapin, and Arthur is for my grandfather--we have to stick it in there somewhere. I just don't want anyone calling him Art or Artie.
Thanks again for the input!!

I say go with Tennessee, if it is meaningful to both of you! I like Tennessee Arthur.
