What do you think of Essme (ehzz-mee) for a girl name? I know it's a bit different, but I am really liking it lately. However, if it's horrible, I would not want to do that to my little girl. What are your honest thoughts? Thanks!!!

Well, with that spelling I very much dislike it. I'd quite like Esme, though (same 'Ez-me' pronunciation). just the normal spelling. Essme looks like it's pronounced 'S-me'.. and with the pronunciation you're looking for, like you're uneducated. Esme looks wonderful, sounds lovely and won't cause headaches for the bearer of the name.

I really like the name, but *much* prefer the spelling Esme..I think it's more straightforward and it is the only way I have ever seen it spelled. It's very sweet though, I definitely like it a lot!

I don't care for it and to be very honest, I think your daughter will hate it... -And my husband just made a very good point: there are too many things that are 'bad(nasty)' that rhyme with it - with kids being so brutal I would go with a more feminine name that she will cherish forever. Besides, when her friends are Jessica, Sarah, Amanda, and Nicole and would be a real bummer to be "Essme."

Good Luck!

...sounds rather like a sneeze, or like the sound you make when you blow your nose right after you sneeze. Sorry. If you insist on using it, lose the second S and spell it Esme.

I like Esme, but the extra s just looks weird. I also prefer the pronounciation "ez-may", but "ez-mee" is ok. Just be prepared for lots of people to mispronounce her name.

I think it's an exotic name. Ez-may.

I honestly think it depends on what you beleive your child would look like. i think this is a more exotic, somewhat ethnic name. If your heritage and last name are somewhat exotic or ethnic, i think it would be very nice, different and unique!! but if your kids are doomed to have blonde hair, blue eyes and a blatantly scotch last name like mine....not so much. A beautiful olive skinned, brunette, I can see with that name...good luck!!!!

Great name however I agree with the spelling Esme... much more traditional. I like unique spellings for names but sometimes they portray the wrong message... like you didn't know how to spell it so you had to make it up. Essme looks like a word that someone would need to unscramble.
Just my thoughts.
Good luck- its a very sweet name.
