Looking for suggestions

I am expecting in March, and I'm trying to get some ideas for baby names.

For a boy I really like the name Dietrich (pronounced Dee-trik... Dieter for short!) but I am having trouble coming up with a good middle name? I want something classic, strong, a little unusual, not too trendy, that will hopefully blend with my other kids' names. (a tall order, I know!)

I am not sure what I want in a girl's name, but I am leaning towards Josephine (a family name) and calling her Josie. I gave my first daughter three names, so I would need three for this one, too. :-) What goes with JOSIE??? (I HATE trendy girl's names! I prefer something classic or even old fashioned.)

My boys are:

Christopher Michael

Jordan Wesley

Ian Alexander

Benjamin Anthony

My girl is:

Ivy Victoria Anne :-)

Any suggestions would be appreciated! :-)

Stephanie, mom to four boys and a princess....and one on the way!

Ok I dont know how you will feel about this one, but the first thing I thought when i heard your names was Dietrich Gauge for the boy and for the girl Josephine Emma Leigh. Of course if you are anything like me, your names will change a few times before the big day. HTH

I absolutely love Josephine Margaret Rose! Did you know Margaret's a flower name? Daisy is an old nn for Margaret which I think is pretty neat. (my Josie's Josephine Rosamel Anne.. so she's a Josie Rose too!)

Josephine is a mouthful on it's own, as another poster said but it does seem to go well in a set of 3 nonetheless.

Dietrich William is really awesome too, are you going to give him 3 names as well? Dietrich William John, Dietrich William Sebastian, Dietrich William James all sound pretty great.

What great names you've got; any way you go, you can't go wrong!

Good Luck!

Devin (and Josie Rose!)

I like Derrick, but not Deitrich, sounds too much like a last name. because it is where I live.

I like Jocelyn as a real name for nn Josie, but not Josephine, way too old and outdated. doesn't match up with your other children's name at all. some of their are classic, but not outright old like Josephine. especially Ian and Jordan, which are more trendy.

Actually Dietrich is a very common German name, both as a first and last name. It is becoming a bit "old fashioned" sounding in Europe, but there are several famous Dietrichs, including the modern Christian martyr Dietrich Bonnhoeffer. One of the reasons I chose it was because of my family's strong German background. :-) I decided to choose a more "normal" middle name, just in case he decides that he doesn't want something so "distinctive". LOL

Josephine was my grandmother's name, but she always went by Josie... hence my choice of names. :-) As for my kids names being "trendy"... well, Jordan wasn't trendy at all when I chose it, and he's a bit irritated that it IS so "trendy" now... especially for GIRLS! LOL Ian was absolutely bizzare to everyone when I chose it, and no one could even pronounced it correctly! Of course, I was living in the south at the time... I am sure that trends are much different depending on where you live. (then again, even here in Wisconsin people considered the name "Ian" to be a bit odd ten years ago!) I actually try to AVOID "trendy" names...I guess I was just ahead of the trends!

What's really strange is that everyone I've told so far thinks Josephine is a great name! (these are the same people who thought Benjamin, Ian, and Jordan were weird, and Ivy Victoria Anne was over the top!)

I think Ivy and Josie will go just fine together. :-)

I love the suggestion of Dietrich William -- I think those names pair really well together. And if your son doesn't want to go by the distinctive Dietrich, he could also go by the nn "Rick" (as well as by William).

Josephine is my grandmother's name as well. She always hated it, but it's a name that's really grown on me lately, and I think is becoming increasingly popular (but not trendy) along with the other old-fashioned style names. I think Josephine sounds very sophisticated, and Josie is a very cute nn. I do like Josephine Margaret Rose. If you are still looking for other ideas, I keep thinking of Frances with Josephine, and I also like the idea of keeping with the flower theme -- maybe:

Josephine Mary Frances

Josephine Frances Rose

Josephine Frances Claire

Josephine Frances Belle

Josephine Lily Frances

Josephine Violet Claire

Josephine Briar Lynne

Josephine Poppy Frances

Josephine Frances Marigold

Josephine Holly Frances

Josephine Lily Margaret

Good luck!
