I know, I know...I keep coming back to this name. However, I also keep debating whether or not to actually use it. Have you ever liked a name a lot but worried that it won't fit your child? For example, I can see our children being named something like Emily or Rebekah, but I don't particularly like those names. I can see our kids having traditional names like these, but I don't want to use traditional names. Does that make sense? I love the name Lorelei, but I am afraid the name won't fit our daughter or go with our family's style of names. There is no one in our immediate or extended families that even has a remotely unusual name. Maybe that's why I'm struggling so much over this one. Everyone has very traditional names - Michael, Richard, Heather, Joseph, Amanda, etc. - and I know my family is going to flip when they hear "Lorelei."
Why am I struggling over this name so much if it's one of my favorites? If I heard this name on the playground, I would think..."oh that's so cute - what a great name!" Or if I met a young woman with this name, I would think "wow, that's really beautiful!" And yet I'm having a hard time imagining calling my daughter Lorelei. Why?
Your thoughts on my internal predicament???

As for your family only being used to traditional names; I guess my response would be that someone has to break the mold sometime! LOL. Besides, I personally don't view Lorelei as all that "out there". I know a Lorelei and she comes from a fairly subdued, traditional family. It's a very pretty name. You should take the plunge. I'm thinking that it's only a matter of days once you name your daughter Lorelei that it feels like it was made for her! (I'll have to try to take this advice too and stop second guessing all of my names!)
