Love Rafe, Gunnar, DH hates!

My DH and I are expecting our first child in September...I am really hoping for a boy and am finding some names that I love but my DH HATES! What does everyone think of Rafe Gabriel (mn husband's first), and Gunnar Richard (mn grandpa's first)? DH thinks they sound like superhero names and can't picture calling his son them. I am so upset...what should I do? I really want something different.

Unfortunately, naming a baby is a thing of compromise, so if DH really HATES them, I would start offering up other options. Maybe come up with some really weird ones and then the others won't seem so bad!!!! hehehe!

Maybe he'd like a longer name that could be shortened to Rafe for a nn? Raphael or Rafferty maybe? Sorry, I don't know any that shorten to Gunnar, or I'd offer them. :) Just a thought.

I'm sorry, I have to agree with your husband on both names. To name any child in this day and age of all the gun violence a name that begins with the word Gun is something I could never consider.

Rafe is just a weird name.

It's a shame those are the names you love, but it's not quite fair to use names your husband hates - and in this case it's no wonder.

you should sit down at the computer on a baby name site and do some looking together.

good luck

I like them but if DH hates them then no amount of support from the board will change his mind :( I have been in a similiar situation. I know what it is like to get your heart set on a name and have it vetoed. I have a "Gage" already and would like to name my next son Griffin or Merrick but both got the big thumbs down from DH. All I can say is keep chipping away at it. Maybe you can use one of your faves as a middle name and once he is born just start calling him by it. I bet your husband will get used to it ;) Maybe you guys can comprimise. Have him make a list of names he likes and you make one. See what comes up that is similiar, just tell him to make them unique.

Unfortunately, I do not like the names you suggested. Thank you for the posting, though! Some other names that I like and are more liked by my DH, are Colin and Tyler. They are a little too common for my taste but I will have to settle. I don't want to compromise but I guess I'll have to....

Many thanks,
Vicki

I LOVE Rafe, although Gunnar is too much for me. How about Rhett or Breckin?

Other slightly less common names that are similar to Colin and Tyler...

Colton
Titus
Tyson
Tobias
Trent

At least your DH likes Colin and Tyler. My DH would have been happiest with John, Eric, Beth, Katherine, and Erin. :-) Just keep working -- eventually you'll find some common ground. :-)
