The Lowdown on Quincy Raine

My dh and I were discussing girl names. I usually get irritated with him because he doesn't like anything bold. His faves are Kathryn, Caitlin, and Brianna. Those are nice names but way to popular and boring/bland for me. I kept asking him if there was anything else he liked (something more unique or exciting). Then out of nowhere he says Quincy. I said that's a boy name. He said that he thought Quincy could become a girl name due to the feminine sound of the c and y in Quincy. I agreed with the trend of unisex names that seems to be happening. Then he repeated the name Quincy and said that he really liked it. A few more times repeating it and he now has a new fave. He tried to find a nice middle name for Quincy. I suggested something like Elizabeth that was obviously feminine to contrast with the unisex Quincy. He didn't like that idea. So after a few random pairings he came up with Quincy Raine and is stuck on the idea. So, that is the story behind Quincy Raine. It is intended for a girl. Now that you know the story, what are your thoughts on the name? Do you think Quincy is ok if paired with a more common/feminine middle name like Elizabeth? Do you not like Quincy at all for a girl? What are your opinions and reactions?

I think it's a beautiful name. I knew a girl named Raine. Pretty girl.
How lucky you are to have a creative hubby!

Thanks for the explanation because I was really wondering if it was boy or girl. I aplaud his efforts to stick w/ a name he loves. We had an unusual name picked out for our last baby (#4) but chickened out & didn't give him that name but wish we had.
Personally I really do not like boy names given to girls. We have 4 boys & it was very hard finding a name for #4. It seems it's very hard to find anything masculine that hasn't been given to a few (or more) girls nowadays. It was very frustrating. I would like my boys to grow up & have everyone around them know it's a boy's name. So, based on that experience I have to say I'm still not crazy about your dh's chosen name.
Secondly, tho, I really think your dd will go thru a lot of explaining as she gets into that world all on her own (school!). A more feminine mn won't help much because mns aren't really used. I guess you have to weigh whether or not that name means enough to you to put her thru that later in life.
JMO!
I'm not a big fan of unisex names so Quincy isn't my style. Quincy just seems way more boy than girl to me. I just wanted to say that I've seen Quinn used quite a bit for girls. Quinn just seems a little softer and more feminine to me.

Quincy does sound alot like a boys name. I'm not much into it myself. I do like Raine...it's earthy. Have your husband get on ivillage.com and play around with the name finder and ask him to come up with a meaning he wants in a name and see what he can find. Maybe you guys can come to an agreement that way. I surely know I'm gonna have a hard time w/ the hubby when it comes to naming our baby (not preggo yet). He's so stubborn as it is anyway. LOL
HTH!!! Good luck! :O)
I know an adorable 4 year old Quincy. She is VERY precocious and intelligent for her age. It's not my favorite name, but it sounds kind of
Well......I sympathize.
