Inez is my mom's middle name. Would I have to explain that every time I told someone that name because Inez is so old fashioned and uncommon?

I want to honor my mom and this is the best/easiest way I have come up with. I'm 85% stuck on Lydia as a fn. My mom's name is Deborah Inez and without using her fn to honor her I've decided on using her mn.

Will I have to explain Inez to everyone? (Because personally it's not a name I'm in love with)

Honestly I don't feel Lydia Inez is the best compliment to Cooper and Catelyn, which are both very cute, kind of preppy names. I just see it going with a Madeline, Presley, Chelsea, Caroline-type of name. Actually there are a lot of cute 'C' names that could keep the trend going among your 3 kids.

But if you love Lydia, and aren't sure about Inez, perhaps you could write the letters of your mom's name out and come up with some combination of the letters for a middle name, even if it is unique...it would still be a neat way to honor your mother, by creating a name out of hers.

"Deborah Inez"

Lydia Denae
Lydia Debine
Lydia Zoe
Lydia Rabine
Lydia Haedin

The combinations are endless...

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Yeah, I'm afraid the C trend was an accident and I don't want to continue it. I don't want to dig myself into a hole that I can't get out of. We plan on having a few more kids so I don't want to be down the line in a few years scraping the bottom of the c name barrel if you KWIM.

I've wanted to use Lydia since my first child, which turned out to be a boy. Catelyn's name wasn't even on our list but after she was born none of the other names fit her. (I had been in love with Felicity but it wasn't her) I'm afraid I had no idea how popular Catelyn (or rather the other spellings of that name) was till we came home from the hospital.

I've tried the letter combo for my moms name and have filled pages but they all seem rather obscure for the purpose or trying to honor my mom.

*sigh* The only problem I'm stuck with right now is I don't love the name Inez and I love all my other children's names. Cooper Miles and Catelyn Brooke. I do really like Danae with Lydia, the emphasis on the 2nd syllable is nice I think.

Thanks for the advice!

Well I see your predicament. I do love your choices of names so far. And I don't love Inez either. But its a good idea to end the C trend if you are planning a large brood of children :)

I know a girl named Danae (rhymes with Renee). Very pretty.

To tell you the truth, when I see an unusual middle name like Inez, I would assume she was named after someone.

I really like Lydia, and while Inez is not my favorite name, I love the family connection for you. I think Lydia Inez has a decent flow, too. Cooper, Catelyn, and Lydia make great siblings, too, especially if you're planning to have more kids.

Honestly, after the first few months of a child's life, you probably won't use the full name in a way that would require an explanation. When she's a newborn, you can say lovingly, "Inez was chosen to honor my mother," or something similar. After that, people probably won't question it, and even if they do, a simple explanation wouldn't be a big deal, I don't think.

I LOVE it! I have two neices with Lydia in their names, one as a first and the other as a middle name. I think the name sounds very classic.

I think it's a beautiful name! I doubt you will have to explain it to everyone. Maybe for the first few weeks after her birth, but after that the mn is rarely heard and it will be assumed that it is a family name. I love the connection and I think it's beautiful.
