Someone suggested the girl's name Lyric to me and I really like it. The more I said it over and over to myself I thought it sounded like a boy's name. But with the spelling Lyric it definitely looks feminine. So I thought about the spelling Learick for a boy and I did come across it as a surname. WDYT? Learick for a boy, possible nn Leary?

The look of it is appealing. I like it! If it weren't for little girls named Lyric, I'd really like it.

Thanks for your input. I really wouldn't want my son to have a female name but to my ears it sounds more masculine. I can definitely see it on a girl, too. I asked dh if he thought it sounded like a boy or girl's name and he said girl so I'm not sure I could convince him, but we'll see, lol. It would still be an option for me to use it on a girl...

Learick looks boyish, but it looks as though someone might accidently pronounce it Lee-Rick, if they weren't familiar with the name. All in all I think it's a nice name though. Very pretty for a girl also, with other spelling.

Besides the Lyric/Learick pronunciation issue, my main problem is with the nn Leary. It sounds like "I would be leery of naming your kid Leary". KWIM?

I love musical names too but for some reason the name Lyric seems like it's trying too hard. I'm not sure why I have that opinion of it. I love Aria and like Melody and Cadence and even Harmony. Maybe it will grow on me. Actually, if I met a child named Lyric I would probably think it was fantastic, I just wouldn't name MY child that, KWIM?

As for Learick, it does look more masculine but it reminds me of being leery of something which means cautious and not sure. Not a connotation I would want.
