I love it on a boy. It was my grandfather's mn- John Mackenzie. The nn Mack on a boy is so sweet.

I find it trendy, boring, and dated on a girl. However, I think more and more people are seeing it as a girl's name. I would love to use the name Mackenzie for my grandpa, but I don't know if I would now.

I think technically it is unisex, maybe even originally a boys name, but I have only heard it on girls so I would consider is a girls name if I heard it. I do like the nn Mack for a boy, so if you are looking for a boy type of name maybe Mackauley, for a girl I think you are good with Mackenzie. - Tara

I didn't even know that it could be used as a boy name!!

My husband said this, "Any boy with the name Mackenzie was once a girl and is currently in the process of getting his name legally changed." I think that's kind of harsh, but a male perspective is always a good idea.

Technically, I consider it male due to meaning, but I wouldn't use on a boy (personally, wouldn't use it anyway--not to my taste) in the current environment (despite the adorable Mackenzie Astin. *sigh*)
