Ever since I was little I have loved the name maddox for a boy. It was, believe it or not, one of those kinda obscure and cute names back in the day. But, Angelina Jolie screwed it all up! : )
Well, here's the thing. I love it, DH loves it, and my 4 yr old daughter actually picked it all by herself!!! What are the odds of that?
My problem is that I am caucasian and my husband is chinese...SO our baby is going to come out looking something Maddox Jolie...and with his name. I just dont want ppl thinking that I named him that B/C of her. I mean, I think she tries to do good stuff, but I just really dont care for her in general.
So, I guess that's my problem. Do I name my baby and deal with people constantly saying crap about Angelina Jolie or do I find a different name?
And, I need a middle name
Maddox....middle name unknown...our last name is pronounced (OW-yung) Like ow, if you hurt yourself and young.
thanks for listening...

If you'd only recently heard the name and thought "ooh, that sounds cool/unique/refreshing," I'd probably caution you about the celeb association. However, if you've loved the name since you were a child AND your dh and dd love it enough for it to feel 100% like the name, I think you'd regret not using it even more.
In your case, if and when someone hears his name and comments, "Oh ... like Angelina Jolie's son?" You could simply reply with something like "Well, yes, his name is Maddox as well, but I used it in spite of that. I've actually loved the name since I was in grade school." ;) You get the idea.
It'd be a shame to give up on a name you've loved for that long because of one child connected to it, KWIM? I definitely think that's one case where popularity, trends and relatively neutral cultural associations can be overlooked.

I believe the most important thing is that you love and if Maddox is the name go for it! Angelina Jolie newest son's name is Pax and I have often considered that name for the mn spot of a future son/daughter. I really like underused virtue name - Honor, True, Amity, Pax, etc. Maddox is a great pick. Do you mind sharing your daughter's name?
good luck,
Brooke
Don't mind at all.
Her name is Adelaide Riley...
We call her Addie
So, I'd have Addie and Maddox. Despite the fact that they both have double D's, they don't sound that bad together. I like it.
What do you think? And, I still can't think of a middle name for Maddox. It seems impossible to find a good boy name to me. Girl's names are so much easier.
If this baby had been a girl, she would have been Maya. In fact, I was pregnant with twins until I lost one at 7 weeks...so I would have possibly had a maddox and a maya. : )
I'm just happy this one is healthy and he may end up without a middle name.

I would use it for sure. It's a great name, seems to fit with your family, and you love it. The child of a celebrity shouldn't be a reason for not using the name you love!

I think Maddox is great, and the way Hollywood goes it's entirely possible that people won't even remember that Angelina has a son with that name in 5 years.
