I have heard of people using a maiden name for a child's middle name.

Gilmore is totally fine for boys and girls! One of my friends has her mom's maiden name, Barbour, as her mn. Both my sister and I have my mom's maiden name, Herzfeld, as our mn. Obviously this should be taken with a grain of salt, but this is my personal experience. When I was younger I always felt sort of gypped that I didn't have a "real" middle name (a "first-name" middle name) like everyone else when we were sharing them around with our friends. It never really felt like "mine," because it was my mom's and grandparents' last name, and if I got tired of my first name I couldn't go by my middle name or anything. However, I think it was different for me because my mom kept her maiden name, so it was her actual last name, instead of a special name that I got to keep going. Anyway, I would have appreciated having a "first-name" middle name in addition for good measure (like my friend Brian Michael Zeebe H__) but I don't think it's necessary.

I would absolutely use Gilmore as a mn for either a boy or girl. I love it when people honor their family by using a maiden name as a mn. I actually had the chance to use my maiden name as a first name and I'm so glad I did it. My family is so proud. Gilmore, though wouldn't be great as a fn, but awesome as a mn. Definitely do it! I like mn's with meaning and not necessarily just regular ol' names.

hello!! i think gilmore would be just fine on a boy or a girl. especially with the connotations that its a family honored name. i think you could even name a boy gilmore as the first name and call him gill. (just a thought)my friend was also in the same boat with her being the last in the family line-and when she gave birth to her son, she used her maiden name as his last name, instead of giving him the fathers last name...just an idea there too. but again i would think gilmore would be fine as a mn for a boy or a girl...take care!!

Good luck with that- I hear it is a long process. Or, at least from what I have read about interntational adoption it is- is it the same with domestic? What about gender- do you request a specific gender and age or does someone else decide for you?

I think that Gilmore would be a great middle name for either sex.

I totally believe in using moms maiden or family name as a missle name. Even dad's mom's maiden name just to recognize the blood line. My children ALL have two middle names, one is a great grandparent's first name, the other is a family surname. McCubbin is one, McCarthy is another, and those are my daughter's second middle names, boy or girl, it doesn't matter. My sons are named the same way. History and heritage are all we have to keep with us! GO FOR IT! Gilmore is an AWESOME middle name.

Ever since I was a child, I knew my first son's middle name was going to be Reilly. That's my mother's maiden name, and her parents had all girls, so it was the end of the line for them. I think it's a great way to keep the family name going.

I think that Gilmore is perfect for either a first or middle name. A boy's nickname could be Gil and a girl's nickname could be Gilly.

With foster adoption you can request age and gender.
