Okay,
Our baby girl will be here in less than 5 weeks!! (scheduled c-section). My husband and I love classic names, but try to stay away from trendy names as well as several of the top 10 names are classics. What do you think of these? Siblings are charlotte and vincent
Amelia Rose
Marian ____
I like amelia a lot, but I keep thinking of Amelia Bedelia and the whole "meal" sound... Maybe I'm picking this apart too much. Amelia was my husband's great grandmother and my Marian was actually my great grandmother (neither of us knew either of them, so it isn't a matter of whose relative to name them after, we just liked the names.) We want a classic, beautiful, and solid name that grows well from a little girl to a woman. Any other suggestions are welcome.
TIA
Erin

I definitely prefer Marian. I've loved it ever since watching Disney's Robin Hood as a child. :)
Amelia reminds me of the bedelia connection, too, and it is also similar in sound to all of the Emily, Emma, Emilia names out there. It definitely has potential of becoming a very popular, top 10 name. Here is a chart of Amelia's popularity:

I think Marian is more unique, less popular, and will fit well for a little girl, teenager, and woman. Her name won't blend in with the crowd, and she also won't be constantly explaining or spelling it.
Charlotte, Vincent & Marian sound great together! :)
You could always use Amelia as a middle name -- Marian Amelia is cute!
I think Amelia is a beautiful name. That's the one I would choose of those 2.
If you do go w/ Marian I think Rose would go nicely as a mn as well as w/ Amelia.
That "meal" sound in Amelia is exactly the reason Amelia doesn't appeal to me either. I grant that it's a lovely name but I, myself can't get past it. I also think it's too close in sound to Emily, Emma and all those other Em type names that are really hot right now. Amelia's a natural successor. I'd go with Marian. Marian Amelia's sweet but here are a few suggestions that go with Marian (although I'd go with a family name for a middle).
Marian Adele
Marian Blythe
Marian Camilla
Marian Cecily/Cicely/Cecile/Cecilia
Marian Eloise
Marian Giselle
Marian Grace
Marian Jane
Marian Lily
Marian Linnea
Marian Lenora
Marian Louisa
Marian Pearl
Marian Patrice
Marian Rosalie
Marian Sabrina
Marian Sophia
Marian Terese
HTH!
I like both names quite a lot - but I agree with other posters who say Marian is a much less popular choice, which is why it's more appealing to me. We're probably naming our daughter Miriam, which is pretty close, so I'm probably biased. :-D

Oh, I love Amelia! It was my frontrunner for DD#2 until DH decided he just couldn't do it. He couldn't get past Amelia Bedelia or the "meal" sound either. I tried to encourage him by talking up Amelia Earhart, but he wasn't buying it. ;-) We probably would have called her Mia for short, but my dad really liked the nn Amy, too.
Marian's fine, but not really my style. I see it as more dated, but that may be b/c I had a great-aunt Marion, so I can't picture it on a little girl. I do know a teenager named Meryl and a new baby Marilyn (nn Mary), though, so maybe the Mary variations are due for a comeback. I like Miriam, but DH wouldn't consider that one either.
Good luck whatever you decide!

I would definately go with Amelia Rose. You could also go with a form of Amelia such as Amalie or Amalia. OTOH, if you are Roman Catholic then Marian might be a good choice too.

:)
Any hope for Mariana? Marian has always seemed far more of a mature woman's name than a girl's name...JMO
I like the idea of Amelia Mariana.
