hi-
we have a 2 year old daughter named Kaia Danielle, we are having our 2nd child (another girl) in february. our top 2 names are:
Marin Alyssa
and
Reive Alexandria (or Reve? -we havent decided on the spelling? any suggestions?)
we are both leaning towards Marin for a few reasons, one being that both Kaia and Marin mean water in one way or another.
i am a little concerned though that it may get popular with that new show that has a Marin on it (Men in Trees). it wouldnt bother me if it became popluar a few years later, but i hated being 1 of 3 Alison's in my class and always being Alison S. i love that our daughters name is not too common but also not so off the charts that people look at me funny. we wanted that for our 2nd daugther as well.
any input would be appreciated. the middle names are pretty much set, we are naming this baby after my husbands grandmother (deceased) and her name was Anna.
tks alison

I don't know any Marin's. I really like the name. I haven't watched Men in Trees so 'I' wouldn't have known there was a Marin on it. It's a new series so I can't imagine it would gain in popularity yet but I guess if it gets a lot of ratings there could be a possibility in the upcoming years. I don't know any Marin's, I've only heard it on 1 movie 'Something's Gotta Give', not sure if that's the correct title or not, lol.
How are you pronouncing Reive/Reve? There's Reeve but that says boy to me. Is this the same name? My favourite would be Marin between the 2.

One of my friends has a little girl (who is 2 1/2) named Marin but they spelt it "Maeryn". I like it.

hi-
i was thinking it would rhyme with Karen? but since our last name ends in an "EN" i thought it would be nice to have the "IN" spelling

Marin is a great name, and it goes very well with Kaia. I would stick with the accepted spelling of Marin.
It's a name that most people will know of as a real name with a history and meaning, and I'm betting they will also know how it's pronounced. Yey I've never, in all my thirty-five years of living all over the place, known a real live Marin.
One caveat: keeping the spelling simple is totally the way to go, especially with a less common name. Also, the true "MARIN" spelling works better with KAIA.
Marin is classic but unusual, which is perfect.
we were planning on pronouncing Reive/Reve rhyming with "leave". i like the name and really never heard of it before either for a girl or a boy. i found it on the ellis island website when i was looking up names and thought it sounded nice.
since it is not a common name it doesnt really bother me if it sounds like a boys name. i have a good friend who named her daughter taylor and reece and those were pretty much boys names until recently.
tks for your input, i guess we'll know once we have this baby and i see what she looks like.

I wouldn't worry about it, I don't see it becoming popular anytime soon. I love the name, although have never met anyone by the name. I do prefer Maren spelling though, and prefer Reeve over Reve or Reive. Both are great names, I like your taste!

I like Marin/Maren a lot, and I think goes really nicely with your older daughter's name. It's a name that's getting a little recognition now. (And I actually think that the rise in popularity came first and the tv character came second -- I've been hearing this name off and on for a couple of years now.) But I don't think it's going to shoot up in popularity anytime soon. I think you're pretty safe there.
I really like Reeve also. I'd spell it Reeve -- I think that's the most straightforward spelling.
Good luck!
