My grandmother's name is Mary and I want to name our next daughter after her with a middle name that she will use as well. However, I don't want anything that sounds too Catholic schoolgirl (no Mary Margaret or Mary Katherine), or too casual (e.g. Mary Kate or Mary Beth). Also, we really do not like trendy names. The baby is due on Christmas day. Does Mary Noelle sound silly- as in "Merry Christmas"? What about Marie Noelle?

We've also considered Maribel, but are worried about the overuse of all the Belle and Bella names. Any other suggestions?

First of all, Mary is my favorite name ever! and pretty much any middle name will go with it, which is great, and you can go for the double-name or not if you don't want to.

Mary Louisa is my FAVE; actually if I am blessed with another daughter one day I want to name her Louisa Mary. I also really REALLY love Maribel, and it goes great with Cecily.

Good luck, and great taste! :o)

I like Mary a lot more than Marie. Personally, I think Mary Noelle sounds just perfect. Maybe I'm not creative enough but I didn't even put the similarity to "Merry Christmas" to the name until I read it from you!

I don't really like Maribel because of the same reason you mentioned ... I am also tired of the "-belle" names.

Now knowing your other dd is Cecily, I'd be really tempted to use a form of Mary like Moira, Maura, Mairenn

I actually went to school with a Mary Noelle! Her sisters were Noelle Joy and Joy Mary. ;) I think Mary Noelle is fine. But Maribel is STUNNING. Mariel is a nice choice also. And for the "born on Christmas" meaning, you could also use Natalie or Natasha.

I love Maribel Natasha, Mary Natasha, Mariel Natalie, etc. ;)
