Hello!

We were wondering if anyone knows of any websites or books that matches first names with last names. We're just starting to look at names, but would like some advice on how to match possible names with our last name.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrea

I don't know of any, but I will let you know that there are some people on here who are REALLY knowledgable about names and who I'm sure could help you out a lot. Tell us your last name and we'll give you some ideas.

As a pp mentioned, if you'd like some ideas I'm sure everyone here would be glad to help. Just post your last name (if you feel comfortable doing so) and maybe give us some ideas as to the kind of names you think you'd like.

Classic -- Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary, Jane, Charles, Henry, John, etc.

Old-fashioned -- Beatrix, Alice, Eloise, Clara, Charlotte, Oliver, Nolan

Biblical -- Sarah, Abigail, Tabitha, Jacob, Seth, Luke

Trendy/popular -- Emily, Madison, Olivia, Joshua, Ethan, Aidan

Ethnic (Italian, Irish, etc.) -- Gianna, Lorelei, Anneliese, Niamh, Fiona, Nico, Ewan, Finnian

Obviously many of these fall under more than one heading, but you see what I mean.

If you want to get an idea of the types of names that have been paired with your ln by others, you could simply scan the phone book or do a web search ...

Searching for only your ln on a wish list like Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/search.html/105-4746617-3252425?ie=UTF8&type=wishlist or any store site (Target, Walmart, Babies R Us, etc.) will returns TONS of examples of different fns with your ln (a quick search of my very-Irish ln turned up a boy named Quetzal Orozco hehe).

You could also search by last name on a site like Babies Online http://www.babiesonline.com/members/search.asp It allows parents to make free personal web sites for their infants, so you can get an idea of what types of names parents are currently pairing with your ln.
