Hi, I have four boys and just found out today that we're finally having a little girl. I've had my girl name picked out since before my first son was born. However, we've gone back and forth on whether she should go by her first name or her middle name. I was hoping to get some insight from others. Originally, the name I had chosen for my daughter was Corrine Maysie (Corrine just being a name I liked, Maysie being the name of my mother). Then, we decided we didn't like how Corrine Maysie sounded, so we decided on naming her Maysie Corrine, but going by Corrine. Then, when we were pregnant with our fourth child, my husband convinced me we should name her Maysie Corrine, but call her Maysie because all my boys have been named after family members, so it would be consistent with the rest of the family. Besides, he actually likes the name Maysie best anyways.
Now that I'm really having a girl, I'm not sure which way to lean. I mentioned the names at my office today, and people felt very strongly that Maysie was not a nice name. I personally think it's a cute name and don't agree with them. However, I've always preferred the name Corrine and agree with them that as an adult, the name won't sound as "cutesy". Also, I think it will be weird to call my baby by my mother's name, but I know from experience that the child will grow into her name and that will go away within a few months.
So, this being the first time I've sought outside advice about names, I was hoping I could get some opinions from neutral people about it...which do you prefer, Maysie or Corrine?

I think using a family name is a great choice, although it is great whether it is the fn or the mn. That said, you will still be honoring your mother if it is in the mn spot. You said you would feel weird calling her by your mother's name, and that makes sense to me. I would give her a name of her own, and use Maysie as a mn. Corrine is GORGEOUS, one of my favourite names. I like the sounds of Corrine Maysie, and I love that you are honouring your mother.

You have 2 great choices! Normally I strongly prefer one name, but in this case I really like both. If you and others feel that Maysie is too cutesy (I don't) then you could give her the formal name Margaret. Maisie/Maysie is a nn for Margaret. IMO, Margret Corrine, nn Maysie is lovely name. I think that it is nice to have a formal name option.
Here my order of preference of names:
1. Margaret Corrine, nn Maysie
2. Maysie Corrine
3. Corrine Maysie
I prefer Maysie Corinne, but I love Corinne!! SO i would use call her by that name.
Good Luck
