What do you think of the girl's name Melanie? Does it age well? Is it too popular or too weird, or just right? What kind of girl do you imagine when you think of the name? Etc. etc. All opinions are appreciated. Please be completely honest! We are thinking of using the middle name Brooke. Thank you!!

It does seem a little dated to me.

I would LOVE to meet a baby Melanie. I went to high school with one, and to college with a couple more, but it's never been uberpopular. It seems like a very sweet and gentle name, quite feminine, rather lady-like.

Ummm...if it helps, I have two years on you...(it doesn't help me...anything ending in a "5" or a "0" automatically sounds like a bad birthday to me anymore...)

I love Melanie! It's so pretty. I went to school with a few, and used to babysit one, as well. I also tend to think of the actress, Melanie Lynskey, and the character in Gone With the Wind. I think it's a great choice! Brooke sounds great as a middle name for it.

Melanie Brooke is BEAUTIFUL. I absolutely love it. I am not sure of the popularity of it, but I do think it is under used (at least in my area). My niece is actually Melanie Nicole....and when my sister first said "we're naming the baby Melanie," I was like "eh." But now that Melanie is here (she's four now) I can't imagine her being any other name. It fits her so well and I love the nn Mel.

I think pairing it with Brooke, which is even more modern, is a great way to spice it up!! :) Good luck!

I think Melanie is a very good name. It is a "normal" name, but it's not too popular right now. It strikes a good balance.
