I have never been one to like all those 2 and 3 syllable M names: Michelle, Mallory, Melissa, Miranda, Marissa, etc. but find myself drawn to Melinda. I should say I have a very good friend named Melinda from college (been out of college for 15 yrs) who is very dear to me (and was the best person to talk to after my miscarriage) and she has propbably done much to influence my impression of the name -- still, I don't think that's all of it. I know everything I read indicates Melinda is terribly dated but I can't help feeling like it might be an unusual/fresh choice for a pretty little girl. Any opinions? Be kind (but yes, be honest too).

I actually don't mind Melinda. I don't think it's an overly-popular show, but Jennifer Love Hewitt's character on Ghost Whisperer is Melinda, so I can definitely picture it on a young woman. The only thing that makes it seem dated in my mind is the possible nn Mel (I grew up with a lot of girls named Melissa, nn Mel), but there are plenty of fresher options if you want a nn -- Mila, Mina or Lindy, for example. ;)

I LOVE it. I don't find it outdated at all, it is definitely ready for a comeback. It has a spunky, fresh feel to it.

I really like this name, I don't really know any Melinda's so it doesnt sound dated to me, not like a Jennifer or Tiffany (not that there is anything wrong with those names). I think it's cute though and leaves alot of options for nicknames if you like them!

I think it's a beautiful name. Also, it's original enough that your daughter won't be one of 6 Melindas in her class, it has great nn potential, and it will grow up with her (i.e., "Melinda" won't be problematic on her resume when she's grown).

I actually love the name Melinda and don't understand that "dated" label at all, lol... I think it's very refreshing and could picture a very sweet, friendly, beautiful young girl with this name! :-)

Well, I am not a fan of the name Melinda but I do not think that it is horrible either. I think that if you love the name and it is special to you, then I would use it for sure.
