We would like to use a family name. My mom's maiden name is Boyd and we like the idea of using it as a first name for a boy. I think it works well with our last name, O'Donnell. The problem is a middle name. Nothing works. Do you think we HAVE to use a middle name at all? Anything you think sounds ok with Boyd O'Donnell?

Boyd Nicholas O'Donnell
Boyd Tyler O'Donnell
Boyd Levi O'Donnell
Boyd Jeremy O'Donnell
Boyd Patrick O'Donnell
Boyd Curtis O'Donnell
Boyd Lucas O'Donnell
Boyd Nathaniel O'Donnell
Boyd Clayton O'Donnell

This is one of the best combos I have seen in a LONG time, needless to say I love Boyd O'Donnell. Is there any other family member you want to honor, a place that has a lot of meaning, an author/musician/etc tribute...

Boyd Patrick O'Donnell
Boyd Charles O'Donnell
Boyd Malachi O'Donnell
Boyd Nathaniel O'Donnell
Boyd Oliver O'Donnell*** I think this is charming
Boyd Tobias O'Donnell
Boyd Calvin O'Donnell
Boyd Mackenzie O'Donnell
Boyd Duncan O'Donnell
Boyd Everett O'Donnell

Any of these stand out? Let me know, I will try and think of some more combos...I do thing a middle name makes a name feel complete. My grandmother did not give my mother or my aunt middle names and they think it is strange.

Good luck,
Brooke

I LOVE Boyd. It was my grandfather's name and we used it as a second middle name for our son. My grandfather's mn was Irvin, but I'm not sure if that's something you'd go for. A few other ideas:

Boyd Ezra O'Donnell
Boyd Abel O'Donnell
Boyd Randall O'Donnell
Boyd Callum O'Donnell
Boyd Lincoln O'Donnell

Boyd is a great name, and the family tie is very special. A couple of pp's have suggested Boyd Patrick O'Donnell, and I just love that combo. I like that Patrick kind of breaks up the 'D' sounds with hard consonants.

Good luck!

Thanks so much. I do like Boyd Patrick O'Donnell. All the names are Scottish/Irish and they seem to belong. One more thing to run past you. My husband's mother's maiden name is Blakeman. What about Boyd Blakeman O'Donnell? Do you think the B-B thing is too much? Too many last names? I like that both of the names would be grandparents maiden names but I'm not sure if I like how it sounds. On the other hand, I do like how Patrick sounds but it wouldn't be special in anyway....as my husband says, I'd just be pulling it out of my - - -.

Thanks so much for all your help. BTW, we have one son already named Andrew William O'Donnell who we call Andy.

Hmm...Boyd Blakeman O'Donnell does seem like a bit much, but it's really not bad. I don't mind the multiple B's as much as I do the 3 surnames.

Are Andrew and William both family names? If they are, I'd say to use family names for both fn and mn for this child. Is there any other name on your mother-in-law's side of the family (like her father's fn or mn) that you could use?
